And, this would be a good choice for the campout.....maybe?

He can explain what happened, something about bungling a shot by checking his AR for a round in the chamber and dropping it on the ground, something like that?

If it is as I understand it, reason enough to never hunt lions with a fucking machine-gun. Agreed?

Good hunting. El Bee

I love seeing those long tails. I called in a couple out there and it sure gets the adrenaline pumping.

No offense to Paul but how was this the AR's fault?

Seems to me a man who can call in a lion then take pics of it before shooting it, has done something worth doing anyway.

I don't believe in fairy tales and call BS when I see it.

A man can get off several pics but not a shot and you think it's the AR's fault?

Whatever.

I don't know where he is, but he did say a couple things. First, he gave all credit to Steve Craig for showing him about lions and what to look for.

Second, a guy with cancer does need a break and here was the first stand he made since his illness and he calls in a lion! You might say, he deserved it.

He can explain how he wasn't able to get off a shot but in looking at the pictures, it looks like the lion noticed what he was doing and looked right at him. Then decided to get out of there?

And, there were apparently six photos but I couldn't get one to post, and finally gave up.

Good hunting. El Bee

went calling with my cousin visiting fro Mo. he had never been calling before. First stand blank , second stand four grey fox , third stand blank , so I say I know a great place to call lions you wanna go , forth stand bingo.
This was operator error. I grabbed the 6.8 as an after thought I had intended to use a shotgun as this area was fairly tight. After sitting down I set up the Ar on my sticks and never moved them.
I could not remember if I had a round in battery , in checking it I ejected a round , in the interest of being quiet I did not get the next round properly chambered and 'click' clearly operator error.

Set up in some cover across a little road from the caller. 6 mins. of distress to get any nuisance animals out of the way , 4 mins. of juvenile lion whistles , 2 mins. of lion in heat.
here he comes. It did not take long at all. using what Steve Craig 'The Lion King' taught me I knew that there was a lion in the area ,and chances were good we would call him in. tried calling him back to no avail. Returned the next day no go. So I assume this was a young male and it had moved on.
My cousins excitement was worth more than a rug he's still talking to himself. He did an excellent job with the camera.

Perfect example of how internet misinformation gets started. I kinda knew what happened, but a machine gun hater is still gonna hate because it would have never happened like that with a bolt rifle, so I just waited to let Paul straighten it out.

Still a very cool experience. There's nothing like it in predator calling as far as I'm concerned. Congrats on getting him on film.

Just curious: how is this incorrect and how does it have anything to do with hating AR's?

Nothing, I guess, except the hitting the ground part. I suppose my comment was extrapolated from knowing the sentiment behind yours and reading your reaction to Tom's. It really wasn't the AR's fault, you know.

Okay, yeah, I know. But, attitudes have been built on less.

You machinegun people are free to disparage my Model 700 in 22/243Midd. all you want and I will take it for what it's worth. Not much.

And, that's exactly how to react to my opinion regarding various assault rifle's and their utility. Laugh it off and do as you please.

Leonard Californication is getting to ya. I have
no assault rifles. assault is an action. Not a rifle. My bolt guns and Ar's are used for exactly the same thing. Is my Ruger 10-22 an assault weapon , my Glock an assault pistol? In the very worst of situations they could be defense weapons. Now the Middlestead could it be a sniper rifle. LOL

Paul are ya gonna keep tabs on the area & give that cat another crack, if it loops back through?

Aren't toms said to have a sort of pattern they follow in their territory?

As I told Paul earlier. It looks like a young male from the face and side, but my guess is, it is a female from that rear end pic.
If a female, she will not leave the area and she can be called in again very easy.
If it was a young Tom, he is gone!
That spot is gold for calling in more lions.
I would be hitting it a couple times a week.

If you weren't so busy making money hand over fist, I would suggest we do that hunt that has been talked about, (what) forever?

Good to see you around here, Steve!

LOL!
I pop in from time to time to have a look around.

You know you gotta make hay while the sun shines in my business. Hey I got a lot of illegals, drug addicts, welfare and food stamp recipients, etc. depending on me to share my wealth! So I gotta get out there and do my part!

Paul did good on the lion as i told him he would kill one right there in that spot one of these days. He just needs to call it more often is all.

Steve

First of all thank you Leonard for posting my pics.
Second I did go back the next day and the cat was gone I am assuming that it was a young male.
I will be hitting that spot with great regularity this year. It is a perfect intersection of ridge-tops.
