Leonard, I see our membership is 800 something? Was wondering how many Coyotes have been taken by all of us for the '05-'06 season. My hunting came to a halt the end of Febuary out of respect for their denning season.77 Coyotes for me.

I generally don't hunt the denning season, either.
When we start talking about numbers, it's hard to relate. Different areas, etc. Some of these guys don't have regular jobs in the winter so it's perfect to get out at every opportunity and kill. Supplimental income.
I tell you what, my totals for this past season are a secret, they would laugh me out of here. Course, been laid up with my bum leg, but still, I didn't kill too many coyotes this year, and no cats.
But, hey. Let's find out what they are all proud of? Who did what?
Good hunting. LB

If you must know, up here in Mn. the crew i hunt with got 94 coyotes, i shot 24 out of the 94. With my little 17 rem. Six guys on crew, no calling, strictly hunt and stalk. We had 4 with the mange and had to dump two, (pore shot placement with the 243 ackley) Furs sold brought a 15.00 average. ![-](http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f208/TA17Rem/coyotes2005001.jpg)

I'm not real good with numbers and don't keep a log, but I think it was 3, maybe 4.

Then why all the pilgrimages to Scottsdale by all those who aspire to enlightenment? Why am I making the trip this very next weekend? Huh? Why?
edit: I didn't think there would be a rush to announce their kills this season, or lack thereof? [ March 06, 2006, 08:03 AM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

They are hoping I will introduce them to Jay Nistetter. ---------------------------------------------------

So I can handle the camera while you handle the gun.

Alright, I'll tell.
200!
Give or take.

Ditto on the denning season Sparky! I shot 100 coyotes this year a few red fox, gray fox, badgers, bobcats and coons also. Caught most of the coons with my terriers and all the cats and gray fox came from a Texas hunt with R.Shaw.
Nice fur TA17Rem!! It warms the heart to see fur tacked up like that. I am busy putting up my own fur right now. It is hard to get motivated because I am doing it my self this year. My buddy that always helps me had a joint replacement surgery on his sewing hand. LOL
Below is my last run on coyotes. Two weekends ago I really got into them and shot 6 on Saturday and nine on Sunday. The third one from the right was a hog. He stretched out really nice. No rubs on that one either.

22 for the season. Had a slow start to the season and then spent too much time deer hunting and not enough time calling.
Q-did you kill your 100 coyotes all calling or do you do some trapping also? Do you do any calling in SoDak?

None were trapped or snared but not all were called sdyote. I spot and stock when I can and you will always have a percentage of incidentals coming and going to stands.
I have done very little calling in SD. You do have some fantastic hunting up there though; I wish I were closer to that White River valley.
Here is another nice pile of coyotes I took around Christmas time I think. Usually I don’t let them get stacked up like this because I like to skin them as they come. It is no fun skinning 20 plus cold coyotes. LOL

Q-Any idea how many were shot calling as compared to spot-n-stalk? Just curious.

Q,
It's no fun skinning even one cold coyote.
Anymore, the fur comes off at the first windmill or big tree I pass, or I just don't skin him.

I have been asked that question a lot sdyote and I am not sure I have gave the same answer twice. LOL Although I probably should, I don’t keep those statistics so all I can do is guess. Twenty five percent maybe are stalked or otherwise shot without calling? I always stalk a spotted coyote whenever I can rather than try to call it. It keeps the odds in my favor.
Good hunting.
