Coyotes pee and poop for 3 main reasons.

1. Mark territory
2. Graffiti (to say Kilroy was here)

...but most biologists agree that the #1 reason for pooping and peeing (other than to relieve one's self is.........

I bet 'Chig' doesn't even know!!!!

What say you then? Give?

Well **** you very much for playing my game then. Why don't you just go watch an ultimate fight then! (read this with a smile on my face) [Smile]

Danny, the primary reason for urine and scat marking is to provide the resident coyote a familiar odor to increase it's level of security or comfort.. Ralls 1966 Ewer 1968 and Kliensman 1971

The primary reason for a coyote to relieve himself
is to frustrate a trapper when he finds one of his traps with coyote signature on it. (Cronk, 2006)

LOL I hope you see the humor Rich. See I really do listen at least half the time. I did screw up the dates though. **** you very much! [Roll Eyes] Anyway...

What were you thinking, JD, that started with "D"?

That is very interesting to me. Thank you for telling me. its really been bothering me.

I suppose that even cat markings or any other markings would make a coyote uncomfortable to find it in his territory? Kind of like why I found fresh coyote poop sitting atop some-one's used toilet paper? The scent of their own anal gland flavored poop makes them feel more comfortable and secure in their environment? What happens if they continually find more foreign scat in their territory? Do they reduce their territory? Fight?

Man, you really gave me a lot to think about with this one! I'd like to read the studies too. Excuse me, I have to go do a search for the above mentioned studies! [Smile]

OK Professor, since you are getting us all knowed up on animal behaviors.

Why is it that my Wife's cat, likes to steal pencils from my son's room in the middle of the night, then carry them to the opposite corner of the house to the Master Bath, and play with them there on the linoleum floor, until I get up at 2 AM and take the pencil away? When he can't find a pencil, he steals change. Craig closed his bedroom door the other night, so the cat went next door to Dean's room and stole a screwdriver.

Why does the cat do these things?

Tim,
If, and thats a big assed if, we had a cat and he did those things, I could only interpet it one way. The cat must be disgusted and tired of this life and wanting to venture to the other side to see what waits after death.

That would be my take on it anyway.

Tim,

I think cats just get bored - moreso than dogs. They can't just pace the perimeter like a lion in a cage, so they steal things. Reminds me of a cat a buddy of mine had.

One day, I stopped by his house and he was arguing with his small duahgter who he had just accused and convicted of dumping all the toothpicks in this small cup out onto the kitchen table. Must have been more than a hundred of them. She vehemently denied any role in the case.

Couple days later, I stop by again and he's just pissed, frustrated by trying to figure out how those damned toothpicks get dunmped out everyday and the little ceramic cup left where it usually sits, upright.

Next day, I'm there watching a game on his big screen when I look in the litchen and there sits his cat, on the kitchen table, taking the toothpicks out of that cup one at a time with his froint teeth and laying them on the table. We crept over to the doorway and watched him remove them all, then just saunter off.

Cats are weird.

As far as the original subject, how often have we wondered what kind of shit goes on in Loco's head?!? Well, apparantly, it's very deep, cerebral kinds of shit. All the boy thinks about is shit, chit, crap, poop, ca-ca, and nitrogenous solid waste. [Eek!]

I was wondering the reasons why for, on finding an aged mountain lion scat that had been more recently pooped upon by bobcat, and most recently of all, by a grey fox.

(If it was all about territory, that fox had some big cajones, huh?)

JD,

Must have been when I went to meet the pizza guy. I was hanging on ever word prior to that dang it, but no, I never heard the answer.

If you guys recall, I had 8 minutes before the plane took off when I took off running. I went right where the concourse was like gates 1 - 11. I did my best O.J. impression and made it to the last gate #11 about 4-5 minutes early. The flight was going to tim-buck-too and I looked at my ticket again. Gate 17 . Man did I get worried then, I ran until my lungs felt like they were going to explode. I remember people staring at me and not giving a hoot. But I made it! There were 3 people hoping to get a standby flight and they were waiting at the door. I made it just in the nick of time and made some very hopeful yet unfortunate person very disappointed!

Thanks for asking! [Smile]

Me too JD. The company there that evening was exceptional! I really enjoyed getting to meet you and Brent. I too wish we could of all spent more time. I'd love to go out in the field one day with Professor 'Chig' and just spend the entire day getting educated about desert critters. Not only is he super smart but he's really pretty cool, not to mention hospitable. Tyler is always a lot of fun too. Wonderful people with great senses of humor. I hope for the opportunity to hunt with you one day and hopefully Brent too!

Brent, That is always comforting(repairs before boarding). I rode on a flight once and the guy sitting next to me sold 'used' jet engine parts. Before we even took off, he was telling me how a large percentage of engines are repaired with used parts, and that our particular engines weren't running in synch. He wouldnt shut up. I am not afraid to fly, but I was getting afraid of what I was going to do if this guy didn't shut-up.
