Ben, They wrote a song about it, it's called "Pissing in the Wind!" Leonard is the resident expert and if he says it works, it probably does.

Ben, If you do a search you will probably find 50% of the past post are about misting.

If you are ever in a large crowd and smell a ungodly aroma, It is probably one of several members of this board.

Cal is right. The creator and all of his disciples reside here.

Bigben, it's just a way to kill a few extra coyotes. Misting gives you a chance to shoot the one's that circle downwind and you can't get them to stop. When they get there, they are engulfed with the overpowering smell of coyote and rabbit and, seldom run off without offering a good percentage shot at a stationary animal. It starts to add up, over a season, if you are into numbers.

Ronnie is right, there should be a lot of information in the back pages. In fact, I'm sure there is.

If not, Higgins does a lot more of it than I do, he can fill you in. I tend to use it more effectively, at night.

Good hunting. LB

I've used it in the daytime and had some good results. Of course, I'm not like Higgins and I don't wear the 40# backpack weed sprayer unit and have to file an environmental impact statement everytime I make a stand.

(BTW, if anyone is at his house and you see my howler, I'm gathering up a ransom as I type. And another thing, if Higgins judges length like he does time frames, than this - >___< is a foot long! he told me he'd have it back to me in two weeks time. Six-+ months ago.)

Lance,

At least you have one. All I've ever gotten from him was a few offers to make one for me.

It sure looks pretty in the picture, maybe you could carry that on a stand and show it off to attract them?

Verbose?!? Verbose?!? What? Just 'cause it takes me 2,500 words to make a point?!? I get paid by the word, man!

That looks kinda pretty. Alright, it looks really great, but Tim, I can't show it to 'em if I don't have it!

Tell you what, Rich, if you get it right back home without delay, I promise to tell everyone what a helluva guy you are, and I won't be all tight-mouthed and quiet like I'm so well-known for being 'cause that's just what I'm all about and I wouldn't want to slight you because that would be, well,... unfair as hell to you since it's obvious - profoundly obvious that you just needed the proper amount of time to finish that there work of art because that's what it is and I'm sure that anything that looks that nice will call coyotes better than even the best calls I made for myself including the new kingwood model I just finished for myself as part of a run of fifteen calls that I had to do to fill orders for other guys... (deep inhale). Verbose my ass.

You said you cut it down. I had it pictured pretty much as a mouthpiece with a nice steer's horn collar still attached. That oughtta do the trick in Hutch.

You see, guys, I went and got myself volunteered to give a demo at the upcoming NTA convention in Kansas on August 6. Calling coyotes. 'Magine that. Only two other demo'ers going to be there - ***** Anderson and Steve Nordstrom. I suspect that both of them will be going heavy on howling since it's "all the rage". (You think those "Coyote Speak" articles I did with Higgins helped that along a bit?) Anyway, I don't plan to specifically address howling, but I sure won't pass up the chance to demo my Higgy Howler since that thing calls coyote hunters better than it calls coyotes, and that's saying something! You oughtta see the heads turn when you let loose with a mournful lone howl. I only wish I would have another of you guys there so we could kick off my segment with a group yip howl. No comparison. One of the guys that recommended me for this demo asks me often to give demos and he always has to make sure I'm bringing "that howler". I'm inclined to get him a Power Howler of his own so he can quit pimping me out and get his jollies all on his own. To John, those things are like coyote porn!

Anyway Rich, no offense intended. [Smile] (But it sure brought you outta the shadows. Din't it? [Wink] )

Rich: I don't know squat about howlers, other than the usual mix of plastic junk I see out there; but I must say, those are truely works of art, impeccable craftsmanship for sure.

What a suck ass! edit: just kidding. Hey Rich, don't you think ol' Vic ought to have one of them works of art? He's a good old boy. LB

Remind me to remove R andy from the bad word list, jokes over.

Well you ole sonofabitch Leonard! That was an honest commment on the wares that Rich makes with his own hands, and I was moved to compliment him.
Im a simpleton in my calling techinque, very straight forward, e-call out 20 yards at crosswind, sun at my back or over my shoulder, play rabbit distress, kill coyote when it comes stumbling in.
I don't fiddle with howlers, squeakers, rigor rabbits,jack-in-the-boxes, or dogs runnin around aimlessly in front of me to distract from the goal.
His howlers were meant to be used, as well as admired, if I had one, it would sit on the edge of my "lookie-loo" shelf and collect dust. Therefore....If I wanted another addition to the shelf, I would buy one from him! Your projecting my friend:) your the misting god and therefore have people shower you with gifts of admiration.....my day in the sun is long gone, I have to buy my shit!

Hey, Vic. Thank you for the compliment. I truly appreciate it from you. I didn't read Leonard's post prior to his edit. So I don't know what was said. I do know that your day in the sun is past only because you avoid the sunlight. Most of us know who you are and appreciate the wealth that you contribute.

Yes, I'm trying to get you one, so don't be so sensitive. Damn, I was only kidding. Rich, you have seen his room, such a work of art would add class and fit right in, even if he didn't know which end to stick in his mouth, and it sounds like he does not? And, it's much better to make one for somebody that doesn't expect a freebee, and willing to pay for it.

Of course, the ease with which he is able to call and kill coyotes says a lot for the coyote Mecca of North America, doesn't it? No bag of tricks, just the basics. And, he thinks (I) send the amateurs down there. He does it, himself! No, for those folks that follow such things, Vic's time has not come and gone. He's still a Coyote God, in my eyes. And, a damned fine rifle shot.

Good hunting. LB

Tim, I vaguely remember offering to make you a howler, but I believe you stated that you don't use vocalizations in your calling, so like most things that used to be in my head it went away.
Vic, I know that you don't use them either.
If you guys were interested in sticking a dust magnet on the mantle, maybe we can work something out.

Rich,

The wife never has enough Dust magnets around here.

And I have an anniversary coming up in a couple of weeks. Maybe if you make one for me to give her, she will buy me a bunch of shiny rocks on a bracelet and we can swap.

My marital future lies in your hands buddy, how much for the howler?
