Tony,

I'm not ignoring you... I'm thinking.

I haven't thought about calls, in a while, and I'm not sure what I want to do.

I don't ordinarily keep calls in stock, and don't have anything available right now.

In 100 words or more, inspire me, to make you a call...
Why do you want one?

Steve B,

Same assignment. [Smile]

Krusty,

100 words or more from ME? That's a tough one.

Me inspire you? Another tough one, because it is you who has inspired me. I'm having a hard time getting my first coyote, just like you did. I'm determined to be as persistent as you were. Will my first coyote be called using one of your calls, I don't know and it dosen't really matter. I have seen pictures of your calls, know how they perform in the hands skilled callers and know the passion you pour into each call.

I'm not asking or TASKING you to build me a call, just the next time you're IN THE MOOD to make a call, please keep me in mind.

Steve

Steve,

Well, that's 114 words, your name, and mine... it was the ten words of doubt, that put you over the top... that alone is good for somethin' in my book! [Smile]

Just for giggles, you've been struggling for "how long?", now? [Big Grin]

If it's really been five years, like me, I'll go fire up the shop right now!

I'm just a dude... with inordinately bad luck, a strong stubborn streak, and some great teachers who helped me to understand the little "machine", that a call is. [Wink]

And I am so much more easily inspired than you'd think, it's actually the interaction with callers, and the filling of their needs that most inspires me.

Knowing that a little piece of me, was "out there", winning, with someone, someplace, is what kept me fighting a losing battle.

I still haven't called a coyote with a call I made, so you'd be one up on me there.

Hi Krusty,

No, It's not been 5 years, but pushin 2.

At last years Campout Dan S. called us a pair, of which I saw one, as he blew by witin feet of me at mach 90. (Thanks Dan that was a rush!)I parked my butt in the wrong place and never saw 'em comming. Live-n-learn.

Your comment about "Teachers" is right on. I think they have a yearly teachers convention somewhere in Arizona each October.

Yea, I've read your posts. Just think how many others have read them and not responed. You have encouraged many others, I'm sure.

Cheers,
Steve

Good to hear from you Steve. If I can make this campout, perhaps I'll be able to call in a coyote this year too.

I'll call slower so the coyote will give us more time to make the shot. [Big Grin]

Steve B,

I wish, But Ol' Lenbo doesn't trust me well enough after all of these years! [Wink]

But did you notice? He trusts my wife well enough to allow her to be the only moderator on the board? ( And even she won't give me her password )

It's almost like he knows, that I'd have ( Just a little ) fun, and his inbox would fill up with a lot of WTF? emails. [Big Grin]

Tim,
I guess with them long legs and your wife not giving up the password you are forever doomed to be a cheerleader. I dread the thought of what Lenbo has in store for me!

Dan,
If you can pull off that slow-mo callin', I'll buy your gas to this years Campout! Talked to my FSO and the concerns I had last year are not an issue. Dang! That last bobcat you called could'a been mine. Here's hoping we can both make it to this years Campout.

Krusty,
I don,t hunt every weekend, but still pretty lame performance huh?

Krusty

Sorry for the delay in replying to your post, I was out of town over the weekend,

100 word assignment, hmm, bear in mind I type with two fingers that generally don't work at the same speed, so 100 words is a big task [Big Grin] damn I wish I would have paid attention in typing class senior year 1978!

Inspire you to make me a call, ok here goes,,,,

I have lived here in this corner of my Montana for 48 years, and have chased coyotes for about 2/3 of those years. I have shot coyotes with camera, bow, shotgun and rifle, I even gave trapping a go back in 1976, but decided in later years calling was the deal. I don't hunt them during denning, I don't view them as the vermon some do, but more as a worthy trophy.

This corner of Montana is not the best coyote country in the state, but it is where I live and even though I do travel to better country this is where I chase them the most and so do all the new folks moving in. I see your calls as a very unique design, and I have seen enough calls to also believe it has a unique sound to hopefully give me a leg up on the new guys. I have plenty of calls, custom, semi custom production and ,,I even went the ecaller route, thinking coyotes would boil on in and alls I would have to do is shoot and skin. After a season of toteing it around I found I did no better then packing my old Critter Call.

Do I think having one of your calls is the save all...no, do I think having one of your calls will put a few more coyotes from a heavyly pressured area on a streacher,,,YES,,,plus they look cool!

I don't want you to feel you have to go out and crank out a call for me, just keep me in mind next time you get the itch to make some calls, I would love to take one on a hunt here in Montana.

Heck thats an impressive post banged out with two fingers!

Tony,

Fair enough, let's hope that's not your last post.

Okay guys, here's what I did, I dug around in my hunting pack, in my office, and in the shop, and I've rounded up two calls.

One, a more modern styled call, made from cherry, with the fishmouth bell, in a middle-magnum size.
It's the looker, of the two.

The other, a Tally Ho sized Texas mesquite call, with a bright voice, and an attached lanyard.
More of the workhorse.

You seem to at least care about looks, and have the "job" part down well enough, so the first call is yours.
It's currently fitted with a single reed, so I could and have used it for a canine vocalizations (it came off my lanyard).
But if you like I can voice it with a double-stacked reed set, for that unique sound you're looking for.

The other call is Steve's, and hopefully can help him in his quest.

Send me your shipping address.

Steve,

Like so many other things, you might find it much easier if you don't try so hard.
Whether or not it leads to success, I can tell you it leads to enjoying your time, or not. [Wink]

I've already got your shipping address, I'll ship in the next day or so.

Thanks Krusty, I am looking forward to seeing it. If you would please voice it with a double-stacked reed set, I am looking for that edge, also let me know what I owe you for it and a address to send the money.

Thanks again

Tony,

Right after I do some 'net surfin', I'll re-voice the call.

You can't send a private message, that feature hasn't been activated. [Big Grin]

Send your shipping address to the e-mail address you originally contacted me through. [Wink]

That's right! No private messaging, (PMs) on HM, which has lead (as night follows day) to the disgusting practice of administrator snooping at such sites as ** and the Okie board, for example. Just remember, when you visit other sites that have (so called) "Private Messaging" activated, your messages are NOT PRIVATE. For that reason, (free advice) you shouldn't say anything in a PM that you would not say on an open forum.

Good hunting. LB

Krusty,

My call showed up today, thanks! I think ya screwed up tho......! You described this call as "a Tally Ho sized Texas mesquite call, with a bright voice, and an attached lanyard.
More of the workhorse." All of this is most certainly true, but this workhorse in one good looker too!
Tony, I'm sure that you're just as pleased with your cherry wood "looker" that's probably a workhorse as well.

Thanks Krusty!

Krusty, Tyler commandeered my Krusty Krier for the fawn distress at the World. Although the judges didn't like it as much as others( I think Tyler placed 9th) the coyotes around here sure do.

Steve, we can do a stand or two with our Krusty calls at the campout if you are willing.

Krusty

I got my call today, and as Krusty said it is a looker. I own a lot of calls I do have to say this one is one of the most unique and to me is what custom calls are all about.

I was sitting in front of the mail box headed back from lunch, tore the package open and could not have been more pleased. I do think I will get the unique sound I was looking for to get a leg up on some of the heavily called areas around here.

I have seen some pics of the Kriers but the pics do not do justice to the craftsmenship that had to have gone into this call.

It will occupy a spot on my favorite lanyard, and will get a workout once I am done elk hunting

Thanks Krusty

Steve,

If your call looks good, it's not my fault.

To me that's kinda like a rifle stock... it's not the fact that it's the shape of a Model 94 stock, that makes it beautiful, it's the wood.
And nobody would care how pretty it is, if it didn't function properly.

Your call is built the way it is, to do a job, like a gun stock is made to hold onto an action.

Since I won't put a coat of finish on a call until I am finished sanding it, they end up looking nice.
And since I hold a call in my hands for hours on end, making them, they end up fitting in one's hand pretty nicely too.
But the whole task, is aimed at the business end of a call, the toneboard and mouthpiece. Everything else, supports what it is and does, it's literally just icing on the cake.

Kokopelli,

That's a pretty good guess. [Wink]

Three words... "The Mystery Call".

The idea of my work being "showcased" at a Hunt Masters Camp-out, doesn't exactly inspire me. [Wink]

Rich,

"Take a turkey to a callin' contest, and he'll lose every time."

That's what I don't like about the idea of a platform calling contest, calling to human judges.
What really matters, after all, is what coyotes like, isn't it?

Tony,

I'm not even going into the whole "what makes a call a custom" thing...
If pressed though, I'd say your call is not.

It's a pretty safe bet, for most of you guys, that a coyote in your area, has never heard the unique sound of a call that I made.

I can daydream about a lot of coyotes, over the time it takes to make a call... I hope they're all in there. [Smile]
