4949 posted his review of a new drag bag he'd bought from (I believe) Midway some time back. About that same time, I was looking for a case of that breed for my go-to gun and finally settled on the ModGear Ultimate Rifle Case which I picked up from Cheaper Than Dirt for $50 and s/h.
Like 4949, I was looking for a reasonably priced, but well-built case that would protect my rifle first and offer me the options of carrying additional gear in one handy, compact arrangement. One thing about me that is a carryover from my Fire Service and EMS days is my love for compartments for stowing stuff. A place for everything and everything in its place, ya know. I was looking for a "system" where I could stow everything I need for calling, gear-wise, in one convenient case, minus the rifle which stays in the lock up.
This bag is what I was looking for. I selected the olive drab because the online reviews stated that it had the thickest padding all, and its sides are about an inch and a half thick, with a collar of padding inside the zippers and around the entire periphery of the case. All seams are double stitched and the case has a set of straps that go all around it and buckle AFTER the zippers have been secured to eliminate stress on the zippers while being carried. Two smaller detachable pockets are just right for mags or, in my cases, an additional 80 rounds of ammo. The larger center pocket is ample room for my MAD M-1, remote and a lanyard of hand calls.
Beneath these pockets is a zippered flap that covers another larger pocket that carries my binos, range finder, and two velcroed pockets to secure other stuff, as in this picture, my 9mm, or likewise sized cargo.
The rifle is secured inside by two large velcro straps with pockets fore and aft into which the barrel and butt can go. I was concerned that the gun would move sloppily around inside, but once tied in place, it's solid.
Like I said, two outer straps secure the entire bundle so as to eliminate strain on the zippers when carried, and it comes with a single shoulder strap.
This bag is sold as 42 inches long, the same as my rifle. but the gun fist snugly, as well. I was concerned but quickly impressed that the case would hold this rifle perfectly, despite it being outfitted with all the stuff on it: longer scope with sunshade, bipod, and the Choate stock.
If you're looking for a nice travel bag, or, as is the case with me, like to keep your gear all in one place so if you get a call, you just grab your clothes, your rifle, put it in the case and you're out the door with everything you need, this case is well worth taking a look at.

That's a nice bag Cdog.
I think the carry straps wrapping around the entire bag are important for strength, especially when you load it up like you and I do.
One thing I have found while hunting in cold weather...I get all geared up with vest, thick coat and backpack, only to realize I had left something I need in my backpack like a shotgun sling or ammo. With the pouches on the bag, what I need is at my finger tips and I don't have to take stuff off again to get at it.

I quickly noted those wrap around straps, too. Without them, there would be a lot of stress on the zippers.
