I am a green horn in the predator calling and would really love to learn from people. So I have been doing a good deal of reading. However reading is not as good as in the field time so I am in search of a hunting partner or some one to take me under their wing for a while to teach me a little.
I've been doing a little on my own and have access to land however I am not experiencing a great deal of luck.
I go to school in Spokane Washington but grew up around Enterprise (Eastern Oregon) and Portland OR. I do not mind travel, so if any of you in that general area do not mind teaching a young guy a little about predator calling or anything else, I would be eternally grateful.

There you go! Never get a better deal than that.

Seriously, you are seeking the best way to get into calling, learn from someone who knows what it's about.

Good luck, LB

robins, It would be worth it to hunt with Rich if you had to walk every inch of the way.

He offered to travel a reasonable distance to get the job done, so it must not be K under an assumed name.

Robin,

You're right in seeking out firsthand experience with someone with time under their belt. Just no way to get firsthand experience from reading about others' accounts. If for no other reason than the fact that nobody ever writes stories about the days they called nothing. [Smile] Taking everything seen on the web as fact can be a little misleading.

Rich i am interested in your offer but it wont be this weekend. The closest for that kind of a trip would be maybe a month if the offer is still open and even then i do not want to garunte anything.

robins, it was just a tweak. Driving 1700 miles and showing up at my door at 4 am was meant to be farcical.
However, we do call all year long and if you do make it down this way you are welcome to join us.
Two or three years ago a fellow drove down from Michigan about this time of year and brought his camcorder with him. We got some of the best video we have ever shot. Apparently the curse doesn't work in reverse. [Smile]
Come on down.

edit: Ronnie, thanks. The check is in the mail. [Smile]

I have made it to SE Oregon on occasion, usually for the big fly-in on the dry lakebed at the Alvord desert. Quite a party!

Robins, I'm nothing special but I am willing to get some calling time in with you. I hunt mostly between Paisley and Adel. Want to start trying up around Mormon Basin area this winter. Got to give my deer spot all the help I can :>). If you're still interested down the road a bit we can go. Pretty busy right now.

Robins,
Perhaps if you could give us an idea of your travel radius, it would help. To some folks, 1700 miles...4:a.m......sounds like a plan. Have the coffee on.

Jack Roberts,
What are the details on the Alvord Desert get-together?? The last time I was in that area, they had flown the valley with gunners. The milkshakes at Fields Sta. and the hot springs are nice though.

???
When did Burning Man become a hunting camp?? I thought they were the 'touchie-feelie-artsy-craftsie' crowd.

I honestly don't know what they are about? Except, they moved into my hunting area without permission. Jack likes that stuff. [Smile]

Good hunting. LB

Doggitter I would love to do some calling with you.
I would think that I could cover east of the Cascades in Oregon and Washington and maybe into Idaho, using I 84 as my lateral movement. However, a lot of my ability to do any hunting is where I am working this summer and what kind of work.

A big fly-in is held on the Alvord dry lake bed in September. Everybody camps out over Saturday night. The last time I was there there were about 100 planes, mostly ultralights and experimentals but some factory stuff.

I've got a ton of stuff on my plate for while but especially this fall we can get out. More than likely sooner too, but I'll have to wait and see. What kind of work do you do that you roam the land? Loren.

I usally work in Eastern Oregon as a fire prevention worker (read logger) but i really dont want to do that this summer, so i am trying to get a internship with one of BP oil refineries in Bellingham WA. But that will probably fall through. Couple of my good friends are cowboys and so i might see if any of the outfits they work with need an extra hand this summer.

Coool! Had some serious dreams of that a while back too, but didn't figure anyone would let me do nothing but ride my horse. [Big Grin] Need to get back to spending time on that boy.
