We got some snow this week-end and boss said i was laid off so go hunting. I went out and took inventory of what pred.'s where around and how many.. I located about two dozen coyotes and a half dozen redfox in a ten mile radius. The population seems to be up on coyotes and fox this year. Waiting for the winds to die down and i will try some calling and do some hunting..When i was out i found a deer that a pair of coyotes have been feeding on and i checked the deer again this A.M. and the coyotes are still chewing away at it..All takecare and good hunting this year... I was at it again today and the Pred. is doing very well so far. i spotted first coyote laying on a snow drift next to a drainage ditch, i figure the pipe was close by so i had to go easey and take the shot when i could or he wouldbe gone in a flash. I used a tree line for cover and made it to the last tree in the row. which put me around 300-400 yds out from coyote. Coyote was still bedded and there was'nt much for a target so i let out a whistle and got the coyote to its feet. I dialed in 300 on scope and aimed for top of back and let one fly. After the shot i saw the coyote fold up and fall to ground.. Secound coyote was spotted heading for a small wood lot close to the road, i parked pick-up behind wood lot and walked through it till i got to the otherside. coyote was still comeing along fence so i set up and just waited for him to come in closer, he was getting close to the 100 yd mark so i whistled to stop him and took the shot... Wellbe back at it again tommorrow.. Takecare and good hunting...T.A. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f208/TA17Rem/IMG_1150.jpg[/IMG]]

TRnCo: you really don't want any snow, its cold and wet, and some days down right crunchy. But i do love it so.. T.A. [ December 04, 2007, 09:13 PM: Message edited by: TA17Rem ]

Woke up this A.M. had a 20-30 mph wind but went out hunting anyway. Spotted coyote on a hill side in a big section. I called a couple of the guys that where also out hunting and told them i had one spotted, but he maybe a tough one to get cause of where he was laying. Got permission to hunt on the land where coyote was and the other guys showed up. We have a new full time member added to our crew so we let him have first crack at the coyote. The new guy made his plan of attack and i dropped him off where he wanted to sneak in from..15 min. later coyote was dead.. The new member walked in on the S.E. side of coyote working his way north and a little west as he went. He made it to a hill that was 250 yds east of where coyote was, he slowly came over the hill and the coyote was looking right at him so he took a quick shot and caught the coyote with the bullet just behind the shoulder.Weapon used was a savage 243 useing 58 gr. V-max. The bullet entered behind shoulder and exited the oppisite side of coyotes back leg. Fur damage was Min. and canbe saved.. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f208/TA17Rem/IMG_1160.jpg[/IMG]]

Tim, Sounds like you and that .17 are a matched set! Both very accurate. Keep those stories coming.

Way to shoot Tim. I wouldnt know what to do with a coyote at those ranges ours avg.50 yds. As for snow I like it soft and about 6-8 inches deep and absolutley no where near my home. Its also very nice out a window ,preferably closed and not too far from the fire. PM

The coyote on the right looks like a nice Colorado coyote. That critter thing in the middle looks like that monster lungbuster showed us a couple of weeks ago. Same kind of big head and long legs I guess; although a gorgeous animal its foreign looking to me. [ December 11, 2007, 09:23 PM: Message edited by: Locohead ]
