Leonard asked in another thread, "What is the Patriot Guard?"
Here is a link to the Patriot Guard homepage.

And another excellent group I work with that was started by a very good friend, Steve"Chappy"Holden...

Many of the photos are ones I took as a volunteer. I am not a chaplain but I support their mission 100%!

I encourage everyone, service member or not, to join us in supporting our troops. They put their lives on the line everyday for our freedoms and we should show them the ultimate respect.

Tom, Interesting that you post this...today was my Saturday to work, and I witnessed our local PD escort a bunch of Patriot Guard riders down our busiest street here in Great Bend, Kansas.
Our local police chief is a Vietnam Vet, and I thought it was pretty cool that they escorted the riders through town!

Booger,
I've seen escorts lasting almost a mile long...
I've witnessed people crying as a group passes by and whole schools of students lining the school yard, and I've seen old veterans standing at attention saluting the flag... patriotism in America is not dead, it's just a little rusty.
When push comes to shove, we will all stand up and defend America. I'm confident I won't be the only patriot shooting back to defend our way of life and country.

I hear ya. But, I'm not counting on any Liberal help. They complain that conservatives aren't the ONLY patriots, but that is pretty much an inside joke; I bet they snicker up their sleeves when they don't know somebody is watching.
There is an element, a fair size element that will not defend the U.S. or the Constitution, the Bill of Rights (except the 1st Amendment) or any Institution in America. They have been brainwashed into believing that America is the problem, not the solution.
And, if there ever be a foreign invasion, these people would be collaborators and traitors, something akin to Vechi France in WWII.
Liberals are self haters, in my judgement. They won't help. In fact, they would snitch on ya.

Niko; What you guys do is beyond awesome. What I don't understand, though, is how you guys manage the self control to keep from doing an attitude adjustment to those losers who protest military funerals.

An old squadmate of mine was killed in Iraq two years ago. There were supposed to be these pukebag protestors at his funeral. We were given strict orders not to harass, molest, or beat them in any manner.
Thankfully, we they weren't in attendance, or else they were kept far enough away that we never saw them.

They say what they do is a protected right, but I strongly disagree. Look, if somebody was in front of my house banging on pots and pans and calling me a "racist" and I couldn't get support from our local report takers, I might have to hose 'em down, maybe turn on the sprinklers, etc.
But, if a family doesn't have the right to grieve without insulting, offensive heckling, then something is wrong. I have a strong suspicion that if I attempted to demonstrate at a radical muslim's funeral, the authorities would keep me away, and most likely arrest me for violating their civil rights.
In other words, thanks to the Liberal Bastards in charge of such things, our world is upside down and normal law abiding God fearing people are losing whatever rights we once had, in favor of foreigners that the Liberal Establishment wishes with all their heart that they would love them to pieces. If beheading is part of their culture, by golly, the ACLU will defend that right to their dying breath.
But, natural born Americans demonstrating at military funerals is completely SICK, and they aught to have their asses kicked.

Koko,
Sometimes its a tough call. The Westburrow Baptist Church group was considering sending buses to protest before they found out we would be in attendance. We generally setup a perimeter and by law they(WBC)can not protest within so many feet of us(15ft, I believe). They just don't show when we are there!!!
Three weeks ago I was standing a flag line along a sidewalk up to a funeral home during services for a WWII vet. A middle aged couple came up to the line and stopped. A funeral home employee walked over and asked the lady if they needed help and her reply was, "Yes, it is against our moral and religious principals to walk past those flags... we would like you to remove them." The funeral guy said, "Mame, the family requested these men and flags be here in honor of Howard's service to his country... I will escort you around them but I will not ask them to move."
This fella then walked the couple down and around the flag line and into the service. When he came back out all of our guys offered a handshake to him. He shook hands with every one of the flag bearers and thanked them for being there! Our ride captain gave him an honorary salute and personal thank you when he reached the end of the line. About 5 minutes later a younger man walked out of the funeral and introduced himself as the son of this decorated vet. He thanked each of us and apologized for the couples behavior. He was immediately told it was an honor for us to be there showing our respect for his dad and that freedom of religion was one of the principals his father had fought to preserve.
The widow requested that every man that stood the line come to her chair at the end of the burial ceremony so she could also thank them. It was a difficult yet heart warming moment meeting her as she sat there with the folded flag in her lap.
I can still remember how I felt holding Dad's flag as we watched him join Mom in our God's earth. That flag now hangs in a case in my room so I never forget... (sorry guys if I got a little carried away with that story)
