I've been shopping for a new TC Omega the past month or so and encountered a strange situation this week.

The TC Omega is an inline muzzleloader. In Texas you can literally walk into Bass Pro, Cabela's, Academy Sports and Outdoors, Sportman's warehouse, etc. and with only showing proof of being 18, you can walk right out the door with one. No background check.

Last weekend I went into the most respected independent gun shop in town, which by the way doesn't carry muzzleloaders.

Anyhow, the guy working the counter told me he could order me a TC Omega from the distributor at big savings but as an inline it was considered a gun by the ATF and we'd have to do the paperwork and background check. I assured him none of this was required and so he said on Monday he'd call the ATF and make sure.

That afternoon I called all the retailers listed above who assured me they sell inlines with no paperwork or checks daily. I bought a TC Black Diamond that way a couple years ago as well.

So, I call the guy Monday and he says he called ATF and assured me an inline required paperwork/background check.

Am I going insane here? And if not, how do I educate this guy? I'd love to get a copy of the rules/laws and stick 'em in this guy's face.

Trying to get an "in your face" kind of answer on somethings from the BATF is harder than getting fingerprints off bigfoot. But you can read all the regulations online just search BATF.

I too have bought a couple of inlines without paperwork but my last one was an Encore so it required paperwork. Good luck.
