In one of my other posts i told you about a good day of hunting now i will tell you about a badd day of hunting..
Yesterday a farmer told me of a big coyote that he saw in one of his fields. So i got up early and headed out alone to look for this big coyote. The section the coyote was staying in was a big two mile section with lots of cover for him to hide in. I looked the area over and picked out a few places where he maybe hideing. One of the guys from crew happen to be in the area so i asked him to spot for me when i went into one of the areas looking for coyote. I walked the outer perimiter of where i thought the coyote would be but i could not find any fresh tracks so we headed for the next possable place it could be.
I walked the fence line into section heading for an over grown pasture and a creek, just as i walked over a small rise over looking the pasture the coyote i was looking for breaks out from cover on far side of pasture and heads East through an open field. I radioed the spotter that he was headed for the road about 400 yds south of where he was sitting and he was comeing through the open field. Well the spotter never saw the coyote in time and it made it across the road in front of him and into next section with CRP.
I got back out to the road and met up with the guy spotting and told him i was calling it a day and going home. On the way back to town about 2 miles down the road i spot a second coyote in same big section sitting on a fence line so i radioed the other guy and told him to come over where i was stopped and to watch the fence-line and field. In the meantime i would go to the north side of coyote and try to cut him off so he can't get into the middle of big section and then try to shoot him or push him to the road.
I made it out into section and got east of the coyote and worked my way west, i finally got to where i last saw the coyote and kept moveing west on his track, as i was getting closer to the half mile line where the fences intersect the coyote gets up and crosses over the fence heading west, i could'nt get a shot off. I radioed that the coyote was going west on fence headed for the road and he should get over there and head him off. Well he did'nt make it in time and coyote gets across the road on him and make's it to a hill where a farmer has abunch of old car bodies piled up. The coyote found a small openning under one of the cars and that was the end of the chase..We don't always get them and thats just the way it is , no big deal. There is always tommorrow or the next day and we still had a good time and learned a little from MR. coyote.. T.A.
