NASA,

Will the Iraqis or Jamaicans, either one, be fielding a team this year? Just curious. [Wink]

No, but I heard tell the CCC (Columbian Coca Cartel) may have a booth there this year due to the proximity of their warehouses. No doubt they'll use their own coyotes, though. [Wink]

Is this the first year for it being held there? I thought it had just went back and forth between Cortez and Elko. If it's a first year deal there, it may be a really good hunt. I'll probably be there.

As far as I know, it's a first. This year it's being sponsored by the Arizona Predator Callers club (once called Mesa Varmint Callers). http://www.azpredatorcallers.com/

I think thye once tried to hold an event in Williams called the "Extreme" coyote hunt (something like that?)

My guess is that the Navajo Re$. would come into play?

Good hunting. LB

just why in the world would they want to host a hunt like that in country that has no coyotes.. they are in the wrong corner of the state.

I can remember Mike Burris talking up the contest at the time. It was sponsored by APC and held in Williams, AZ. As I recall the event was to be held in Az for 2 years then back to Nevada for 2 years. According to their newsletters it was held in Az in 2002 and 2003. The extereme hunt as I recall wanted to eliminate coyotes out of the Springerville area.

There aint no coyotes in the Springerville area!

J. Brad Miller killed them all!

That's right, Steve. None on the ******, either. Best bet is McNeal. [Big Grin]

Good hunting. LB

Cal, Bill is right. Mike Burris is hosting this year and next year at Williams then it goes to Cortez if gas prices ain't too high for the Ca and Nv. boys to drive that far. It is invitation only. But that is very flexible.

I'll have you know Leonard, the coyote population is severely depleted in the McNeal proper area. I would imagine that in a ten square mile area around McNeal, there are more airedales than coyotes....no shit.
I have to drive many a mile last two winters to find good populations of coyotes to call to,this area is just over called, one to many rondy, and to many semi locals know about the ole honey hole now...sad indeed.

Hey Vic,

We can always sneak into the ****** ****** *********** over by ***** , I hear that area is thick with coyotes!

Edit: because I forgot to name the Tribe!

McNeal, AZ is coyote paradise. Mcneal would be a dandy location to hold a world championship coyote calling contest. J.H. would probably help set it up, and I'm sure that Vic would donate a few kegs of beer. What more could you ask? [Smile]

We need rain here also.

But mostly I need and ****** princess to guide me on the Hualapai for this contest. Or some other tidbit of info on where to hunt. Hopefully some of my Arizona connections will come through for me. (hint).

From the flyer:

"Williams, AZ area has 9.2 million acres of PUBLIC hunting ground around it. Teams are not restricted to staying in the Williams area or even AZ once released from check-in. You may return to your home state or anywhere else in the world you want to hunt. Must return by check-in at the close of the hunt."

Cal,

Locations to secret coyote honey holes are something that are never put into writing, and only spoken of once per year at the Huntmaster's campout.

Rumor has it, we will be making introductions to several Native American Princess hunting guides that weekend also.

It's a shame that you would rather play with wild goats that weekend.

It's not the goats Tim, it's the goat hunters! The goats could care less if I'm there, but the guys that pay me to be there may be a little miffed if I were off in Arizona playing. I was just fishing a little for responses from some of the guys that have hunted that part of the world, but really didn't figure on getting much useable info. I'm not real good at coughing up my honey holes either. (Except for rabbits, NASA, Q, and Claimbuster been here for another 3 days of slaughter.) I'm betting some of the Arizona and California boys may be plotting and planning on entering. I'm also betting that none of the Texans are [Big Grin] . But other than that it will probably be the same bunch thats at most of the bigger hunts, and they will have more time and money to invest in scouting things out than I usually do. One thing for certain, some of the locals are going to be tough to beat in thier own back yards.

Cal, Williams is just check-out and check-in. The world was last held in Williams in 2002 and 2003. 2002 the winner hunted northern Nevada and turned in 17 coyotes. In 2003 Dusty Woods hunted central N.M. and turned in 14 coyotes.
When you get a map of Az in your hands call me and I will point you to some prime areas.
You can hunt any state that you want. Check-out Thursday night and check-in Sat at 2:00pm. If you drive long distances that will cut into your calling time since there is no night hunting. Winners will take a mandatory polygraph. Cool.

Cal, since you were so generous with your honey holes, I'm obligated to return the favor. A spot in AZ that has been known to be a good coyote producer is south of the town of *****. This would be *** ****** ***. If you can find *** ********, take the road west from there. Anywhere along that road is good. Best at night, but pretty good calling in the early AM. Q's rig would work really well here.

I don't know what the polygraph questions will be, but it might help to find out in advance. This spot might register on their tilt-o-meter.

That would be good info Nasa, if I could read asterisks. I liked Quintons rig for summertime rabbits, and it might be good for Texas but a guy could freeze to death here if he were to spend much time in that thing in the winter. I like the looks of the California rigs if you could rig up a little heat in the camper part.

LB must have the AZ honey hole filter on, lol. Winter in AZ isn't quite as bad as WY, but a long sleeved shirt might be a good idea. [Smile]

If you look real close at the front facing view inside my camper, you will see the wire bracket for the propane heater, which keeps the toes nice and toasty. (Wyoming tested)

But seriously, that's one of my main head scratchers(?) on that whole Texas "high seat" setup. It looks way too exposed for when the temperature drops?

Good hunting. LB

Yes sir...They do get awful uncomfortable when it's cold and windy. Q did a really good job on his rig. Some neat extra features on there too. I can sure see why a person would want to have the shell. The high chair I use works for my kind of hunting, especially since I hunt by myself 95% of the time.
