Good morning, Rich. Not enough information on those tracks. Could be Bruce's yellow lab, or some introduced (and protected) species?
Good hunting. LB

Took these shots while hunting two years back.
Stew on them and give me a guess.

Those tracks are headed east and it is just a small sampling of the mass exodus now in progress. Somehow the word finally leaked out that we are less proficient hunters.

Sorry Randy, Mo is west of the Misissippi and doesn't qualify as an Eastern state. Besides coyotes have always lived there. The first bounty on coyotes was offered by Missouri in 1825. Lance what is cheating?

That second pic is screwing with my brain. The first time I saw it, it looked like a positive impression, bas relief. The next time it looked like a negative impression, a depression in the sand. It changes every time I see it.

Rich, notice the shadows in the toes of the second pic.; but I thought the same as you at first.
Thanks for not referring to me as an easterner. I try to avoid that since I'm originally from NM. My brother gives me enough hell about that all the time.

Looks like coyote to me. One pusher and one digger.

WOW, anyone who can tell the color from the tracks is my all-time hero. The front(digger) is twice the size of the rear(pusher)(for those who don't speak Jay Jargon)

Sure. Light colored, nearly blonde. More melanin would have resulted in a deeper track respective to the clay/ silt content of the soil in which the tracks are made. As far as gait goes, this wolf is obviously looking back over his shoulder at something or someone, possibly laughing at how he is right there, and they can't shoot. They always seem to know. They always do. I know this from years of experience and training,... resulting in my finely honed eighth grade reading level and the fact that I went to his website upon reading his very first post where I saw those tracks in a picture.

Timbertoes -
Too late is right. Spotted May 2 on Kupreanof Island, AK. Season ended last day of April. Lucky Lupis I call him. Crosshairs on his shoulder a good ten minutes. Happened upon him on the flats, wouldn't respond to a call. Huge blond wolf. Saw a second two days later. Downwind, he slowly worked the shore less than 15 ft. from me at one point. Beautiful creature.
You read well Cdog.
