I got up this mourning to go to work and i got a block and a half from my house heading out of town and i spotted this little fur ball in the ditch. It looked too big to be a coon, so i decided to turn around and see what it was. Sure enough its a little coyote pup, with some of the nicest fur. The pup looked awfull small for this time of year here. I was wondering do coyotes have more than one litter? or was it just a late birth.

And there's a very good reason for why late births sometime occur. Anyone (besides Rich) know why that is?

Yeah, Moma was being a typical female and not putting out like she was supposed to.

A yearling female with no established territory who came into heat later than most of the other coyotes?

Yeah, Randy. But, they say that the males can't breed them, except during the regular season? So, it would take two lost souls, late development. It must be possible, because I saw a pup coyote in January, once. No doubt about it, a pup coyote. Approximate size as you would expect to see in August, sharp little teeth, maybe ten/twelve pounds, at the most.

Good hunting. LB
