I'm still hammering away at the coyotes here at home trying to get one called in..I think i have made over 200 and some stands in the last year and a half and called one in last spring and i just took a few pic's of it and let it walk..
Its pretty tuff to call in coyotes in my area it don't happen to often due to the amount of pressure the coyotes see from day to day and year after year compared to other regions of the U.S..
The coyotes here will lay-up for the day next to a hole or pipe or maybe inside either one. They have'nt responded to food sounds, terr. sounds or out of curiosity.. I have stumbled onto some sounds that have worked twice so far and i will continue to use them and see what developes.
Back to the hunt..I had time today to go out calling from noon till dark so i decided i would use my ATV for todays hunt.. I made 8 stands in prime coyote areas and had nothing come in and saw nothing get up and leave other than some deer and geese..
It was around 5:30 and i had time for one more stand so i went to a spot i have been to and called five times prior this winter. This is the same spot i called the coyote in last spring.
Anyway i parked my ATV in the same spot and walked in to the same stand i always use and started to call. I spotted a handfull of deer get up and run off into the field and then some geese showed up and landed out in front of my stand. LOL
I went through a few sounds and nothing showed so i decided to try the sound i used last spring.
All of a sudden i see something pop out from a small grove of cedar trees and started running in my direction, i got the gun to my shoulder and turned on the CAM and got the coyote dialed in.
This was a good coyote it behaved like most of them do, it just kept comeing and comeing. I reached down and turned the caller off and waited.
The coyote kept comeing and i was ready till it stopped on top of a small hill. I changed sounds on the caller and turned the volume down and the coyote decided to committ.. The coyote stopped one more time for a look and then i squeezed the trigger and i could hear the bullet hit. I had to give the coyote one more 25 gr. pill for good measures and J.H. can kiss my azz i won't be useing a 25 gr. bullet again. Anyway now i know how the coyotee felt when he finally got the Road-runner..LOL
I have a little clip of the hunt and i would like to share it with everyone.. Its the first but won't be the last... Takecare... Tim...

I just found it odd and figured I let you know.

That was quite a hole in the shoulder for a 17? What bullet you shooting?

Oh and at least you got rid of the PETA pics.

I had good luck with the 25 gr Bergers. Blaine told me to try the 30 Golds. He really liked them. I didnt keep my 17 long enough to experiment much.

I havent hunted enough the last few years to have a verdict on the 204 yet. I still say my favorite is the 223 AI with 52gr A Max at this point.

Oh, and congrats TA. [Cool]

Kinda late here TA, but I'm having good results with 26 gr. of H414 and the 30 grain Bergers. They do sometimes exit but they don't leave gaping holes unless you hit a bone, but that's pretty standard with any cal.

I've lapped my bore and moly preped it and also done the necks of the cases before seating my own preped bullets this probably causes a 100 fps loss in velocity but its only marginal when it comes to this cartridge, so I don't believe I've diminished it all that much. I kinda wanted to slow it down anyway to allow the bullet to do its thing and that it does...

Between work, studying, and night school, I hunted 2 days in MO this year and I only got to hunt about two weeks in that place we are forbidden to name, The "Dark Side's world headquarters" in AZ. [Smile]

I have only used the 25 gr bullets in my 17's and they seem to make coyotes fall over "dead forever". Bergers or Hornady HP's worked for me. But then I don't generally shoot coyotes at those extreme distances some do. Mine tend to die between 25-75 yards away. Never needed all that long range stuff for my application.
