Started out fighting pea soup fog the past two days, leading to a late start hunting, but I'm still managing to get things done. Made eight stands yesterday and saw seven coyotes, but only managed to kill two. Murphy isn't a good hunting partner.
Hit the road this morning and had to sit a few hours to let fog clear so I could see more than fifty feet, but once it did, things got real fun, real quick.
All told, saw four coyotes and one cat and I killed all but one coyote. Best part was that two of the coyotes were on each of two different predator management efforts, one being a sheep operation and the other an upland game management area. Feels good to be able to apply our skills to help others - how many pheasant hunters can make that claim?
Had coyotes first appear coming to the call at anywhere from 300 yards to twelve feet and die at ranges of anywhere between 32 yards to 200 and change. The bobcat was an added bonus on my first trip looking over a new hunk of ground. Punched him at about 40 yards and squinted my eyes real tight when I went to get him, hoping that I hadn't blown him to pieces with the .22-250. Entrance wound just behind the left shoulder and about four small exits down the right side, no hide damge. Nice tom.
By the time I got this pic taken, my legs and back were getting sore. I've been calling sun up to near sun down for the last five days and I think I must be getting old(er) because I'm starting to get sore and tired. LOL Still a LOT of fun, though. Just can't understand those guys that hunt pheasants. ![[Confused]](confused.gif)

Sounds like a great weekend! I confess. My interests tend to get a little divided in November. Shotguns are fun!
I like shooting pheasants, taste a sight better than your mixed bag too! ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
Heck, I even drove out to Kansas this last September for doves.

Nice job Lance, look like your mange may be clearing up??
Do your cats bring much $$ down there, it would be interesting to throw some of those in with ours which usually bring close to top dollar and see if a guy culd do better?

Randy, your cats get top dollar? I always assumed lynx cats from portions of Nevada, Oregon and Utah pulled in the best prices?

The second and third from the left are both mangy, and about half of what we see are still losing hair, so it's a ways from being cleared up yet.
That bigger one in the middle was an older male that went right about 36#. The second one from the left was an old bitch with no teeth left. I derive a certain sense of satisfaction in calling those older, nastier coyotes. Sadly, as has been stated, trophy coyotes tend to be the worst ones to look at and thus, make lousy wallhangers.
We did manage to kill two this morning. The first one was trotting down the road when we topped a hill, crossed the right-side ditch and took off quartering away and behind the truck. My first hot took out a hindleg, and while the coyote dragged its ass on the ground biting at the stump, I popped his chest, him going one way and us going the other - not one of my better shooting scenarios, but then again, what is?
The second was a nice young one-year old male, pale as we get 'em around here. I turned on the caller before Kevin was even ready and ended up having to hurry for the shot as the coyote rolled out of a sandplum thicket almost immediately.
Randy, as far as our prices, the fur reports are quoting $25-30 tops for our 'cats, and our coyotes are, at this time, unsellable. I've been skinning the better ones, but am second guessing that move at this point. Hate to toss them in a ditch, but if we can't get rid of them, what's a guy do? Too many people wanting them dead to stay at home and watch TV.

LB we have cats here bringing the same money.
Lance what are you going to do with that cat?? Yea the fur market makes a guy wonder, what about skinning and tanning Lance and giving to some of your landowners. just a thought.

I dorsally skinned it for taxidermy at this point. I can often score twice the going rate on a well-marked 'cat by selling to another taxi.
Which landowner(s) should get something and which shouldn't? That's a good idea, but when I do the math, I'm looking at $3k in tanning expenses right there. I have over 100 landowners that let me hunt their places.
