A front went through last night and the temps here in East Texas droped to below freezing, and the wind blew hard for most of the night. This morning about daylight Bucky and I met for what we thought was going to be a great morning of calling. We went to a place we haven't called since last year. Quickly we realized we had made a bad decision. Over the last few months we have recieved lots of rain and all the old logging roads and trails we were planing on calling on were under water, FROZEN water. since we were already there we decided to give it a try. No luck. We both had things to do during the middle of the day so we decided get back together later today and try another place we haven't called since last year . This place is very sandy and the water leaches away instead of puddleing. The place is about 1000 acres and had most of the timber cut off of it a few years back. The family that owns it deer hunts and have kept the old logging roads mowed and it has a pipeline right of way running through the middle of it. This place is incredibly thick with new growth. The only way to get around is to travel the logging roads or pipe line right of way. The coyotes also use these same routes to get around. We had a North wind so we entered on the South side and decided to hunt the right of way which ran N-S. We were about 5 minutes into our third stand when a coyote popped out about 250 yards down the right of way. She stood there for a few seconds listening to the Foxpro playing the bunny blues. Finally after surveying the situation she decides to come. I believe the pictures will tell the rest of the story.
