Had time for one stand after work last night, so I went over to a friends where I heard a pack the night before. Walked across a creek bottom and up the bluff through a cedar glade. Droppings in the road going over the bluff. Went across a big ridge field to the next hillside facing a creek on the east. Called in and shot a 29 lb. female in about 10 minutes. Heading out it was getting dark. Going into the cedar glade a pair of coyotes opened up about 200 yards north. About three opened up about 75 yards south of my position in answer. I hurried to the bottom and set up looking upcreek where I could see about 30 yards. I gave out one howl and then squealed 4 times like a rabbit. I heard them coming along the bluff and they went above me and checked the road. About 2 min. later I heard one about 20 yds. away in the edge of the brush. I hit my squeaker and he started howling and barking, all the while running back and forth just in the brush where I couldn't see him. He stopped, and when he did I growled at him kind of low and he went ape **** crazy barking and howling and another began growling in the road behind me. I would woof and growl at him intermittently and he kept up the show for a good 15 min. until I had to go. Then while I was walking across the bottom to the truck he bid me farewell with plenty of warning barks. I know they caught my scent in the road, but I think I confused him some, or at least sparked his interest when I was sounding like a coyote, a rabbit, and a rodent. He really put on a show that tickled the crap out of me. Wish you guys could have been there. It was priceless free entertainment. Thanks for reading. Todd.
