Had another good Sunday morning, all Cronk this time. Started my first stand of the morning at first light with my Cronk Little Buffalo Horn howler, followed up with old Rich himself blowing the same howler on my CS-24 (Man, can he make that thing talk yote). Waited a few minutes and went to Rich doing his "Keychain call" linked up to his Lip Squeak. A big male came over the rise against the glow of the sky not wasting any time coming to see what was going on in his territory. I like shooting them a long way off, and he offered me a perfect profile shot at 322 yds., and I planted a 70 grain Blitz King solid into his left shoulder, DRT. Beautiful coat male, 42 lbs., destined to be another rug for Possumal.

Called in a young female on a later stand using Cronk Lip Squeak with echo. Stopped her at about 90 yds, and hit her righ in the nose resulting in total destruction of all of her head except her ears. Small this year pup, no picture of a real gorey scene. She ended up in the farmer's sinkhole.

Here are a couple of pictures of the exceptionally pretty male:

Rich likes to use his own recorded sounds on his ecaller. I don't blame him. He makes some really great calls, but his ability to speak fluent coyote and critter is even more impressive.

Good work Possumal ! That is a real pretty coyote too. You may have figured it out already, but that "keychain" rabbit distress was recorded with a real small call from Foxpro. The little call actually was made to put on same ring with your car keys. I have another small buffalo howler ready to go now, but my camera is acting up, so can't post a photo. This one is a small version of my original howlers with delrin reed body and a reed protector. I am expecting 10 small cow horns to arrive this week, and plan to make small howlers out of them. The smaller howlers are going to become popular I think.

Rich, I'll let you know in a few days, but I am 99% sure I'll have an order for at least 3 and maybe 4 of those howlers and the new "Assassin" call you made me. They both sound better and better the more I lock my Possum lips on them (lol). If I practice enough, maybe I'll get somewhere close to your level or maybe close to that darned Jerry Hunsley's voice howl. He and that darned Dave Tatum must have a throat made of steel to be able to make all that racket with just their voice. Now if they could lip squeak like the old Cronkster guy, they'd be unfair to the yotes. [Razz]

Funny story.

I was hunting with a well known professional who voice howls. So, on this one stand with a commanding view of the entire state, I joined in, imitating as best I could, until my throat was real sore. REAL SORE!

Later, I asked him how I did, and he said..."I'm glad you mentioned that". Then he proceeded to burst my bubble without regard for my oversized ego. I was crushed, but WOW, thatvoice howling takes a special talent! I can do a wolf, but coyote is far beyond my ability.

Good hunting. LB

Yeah, but were you guys using CD Quality voice howls, or pulling the old MP3 Yodels? Sorry, I couldn't resist. [Big Grin]

Leonard,
I think I know who you are talking about. He and I stood side by side and voiced howled a pair in one night. We were standing on the property that he built his new house on. That guy only needs a cow horn howler to save himself from damaging his singing voice.

Do you think you could contact my grandson? He's at Ft Wainwright and could use a couple decent spots and maybe a little help? Umm, but, all he has is a 300Win and a 20gauge and a 44Mag.Redhawk and no electronics at all. Just show him stuff, like your favorite caller.

aaron.bosinski@us.army.mil or ajbosin@aol.com

edit: yeah, same guy, Mr Cronk. He ain't too purty but he does have a nice view.

Good hunting. LB

Sure Leonard, I'll get in touch with him and see if he wants to go out calling with me. I have enough stuff to get him set up and there are a few new places about 100 or so miles from Fort Wainwright I've been wanting to check out that I saw this summer.

Gosh, TundraWookie , that sure is nice of you to help one of our soldiers like that. You sir are a Patriot, not a pin head like a few others I know. Hey, my son-in-law is up there at same Fort. I bet he knows Leonard's Grandson.

Rich,
Send me your son-in-laws contact information and I'll get in touch with him too and see if wants to do some calling as well. There are some large tracts of country I want to investigate more and call where another guy would be handy. I never mind helping out one of our soldiers, it's the least I could do.

Tundrawookie,

His name is Douglas Matthew Clark, and he goes by "Matt". His E mail is mattclark0909@yahoo.com

He will only be there for a few more weeks before his transfer to Kansas base. He will appreciate your offer for sure. Tell him that I asked you to contact him, that way he knows you are for real.
Thanks,
Rich

Rich & Leonard,
I sent them both emails asking if they were interested. It'd be good to take a couple of our countries finest and get them into some prime Alaskan fur. Got a nice Red Fox Friday night that had a really thick coat. Usually I don't start until mid November, but talked to another guy who shot a Red while out Grouse hunting and he said it looked great. He was right, their coats are as thick as they are a month from now. Now is the time, trappers are just getting the woods plastered with all sorts of 24 hour-a-day, 7 day a week catching machines.

Rich, is he coming to Leavenworth or Riley?

Edit: I only ask because I live 5 minutes from Riley.

Patterson,
I think it is called Fort Riley. It is in or near Junction City? My daughter (Britney) is already there and has their apartment rented. She works at the Tru Value store there. Matt has completed two battle zone assignments, his latest being in Iraq. He re-enlisted awhile back for---I think he said 7 years. It is hoped that Kansas will be their home for quite awhile.

Leonard,
I chatted with your grandson for about half an hour. I pointed him to a good area for birds and squirrels, since he mentioned he wanted to chase those this afternoon. We're going to try and put a hunt together one of these coming weekends. He really wants a Lynx, so hopefully I can help find him one. I have a knack for always calling them in out of season, so maybe it'll change.
Rich,
No word yet from your son-in-law, he could be busy out here on Wainwright lately, there's a ton happening.
