After poking fun at some of the silly questions and comments on the other hunting site, I desided to read some for myself. Talking about off the wall; one guy said he was looking at getting a 7mm or 45-70 for coyote hunting and was not only encouraged, but told about which ammo to use! I'm surprised someone didn't reccomend a 50BMG and to keep the range at 100yrds., then shoot him at point blank when he went to retrieve it just to make sure it was dead! And to think ; I started out using a .22lr when I was 16. The dead coyotes didn't seem to know the difference. Wish someone would have told me a 45-70 would have killed them deader!

A 45-70 necked down to .17 cal might be the perfect fur round. [Big Grin] I wonder how busy my gunsmith guy is this summer?????

Kokopelli, If it don't shoot well; you might want to opt for the .50cal necked down to a .19 Calhoon. That way you can use it on those tough ground squirrels too!

I have a Marlin .45-70 lever gun with long octagon barrel. Very good coyote rifle iffen I can call em in close enough. 300 grain factory fodder seems to drill em good enough. Skins em too sometimes.

If you call the coyotes in close, you won't NEED a high dollar range finder.

The 45-70 skins'em everytime you get a dead center texas heart shot. Turns'em inside out.

Aznative,

Yep, that way all I gotta do is throw the meat in my fry pan. Don't even need to cut it.
