I was invited to NW DN to do some calling for a couple of days. This is way different than I'm used to. Wide open country. When we set up, it was usually in the middle of a crp field, nothing around, nowhere to hide, but as often as not, a white furball would be heading our way from 3/4 of a mile away. Kinda tough to get a close shot, we may as well have been standing up. Good test of skills though. I did well going with 10 minutes of pup distress with the Cronk howler, if nothing showed up, I'd wail into the Predatr. Twice that worked. Both times within two minutes of that Predatr, a coyote came in. The distresses probably got their attn. but not enough to advance. Both times when using strictly pup distress, the coyotes that came in were males. One was a pup with an apparent attitude.

The coons
I've never shot a coon before this. This area is full of abondoned farm houses and it's way overpopulated with coons. Tons of fox too, really threw me off, I didn't think so many fox and coyotes could live in the same area. My only theory is that the fox may taper off.

Wow! Brad... what a hunt. I hope to do that well this season. Glad the Predatr call worked so well for you. They're killing coyotes all across the country this year already. Keep the stories coming.

The coons weren't called, small groups just spotted, in broad daylight no less. They've got a real coon problem up there.

Jason was shooting his new Savage 22-250. Beautifull gun. Hell of a shot too, the fox was on the run when he hit it. I live and die by the swift, it's a basic Ruger. Its always on the mark though. Unfortunately, I'm not. [Frown] We both missed our share of gimmies but this was the most fun I've had in my almost 3 years of doing this.

Brad,

You might want to edit your post. I don't think it's legal for non residents to shoot 'coons in North Dakota. Fox and coyote is it.

I could be wrong but just wanted you to check for yourself before there's some problems.

Congrats on the hunt though. Looks you like guys had a great time!

Randy
