I am new to this, just wondering what the best gun is for coyote hunting? I don't want a lot of fur damage. What size scope? Would a .223 be good? Thanks for the help.

I think a Remington Model 7 would make a decent coyote rig. Comes in 223, fur damage dependant on your handloads. http://www.remington.com/firearms/centerfire/M7_LS.htm

Good hunting. LB

The .223 is a good round and can be loaded to minimize fur damage.

You may also want to try the .19-223 Calhoon or the .17 calibers as options for minimizing fur damage. While these rounds may be designed for minimal damage, they can create as much damage as anyother round if not placed properly.

Find a round that you are comfortable with and enjoy it. If you search long enough, you will find a supporting opinion for anything from a 7-08 to a .14 cal.

Good luck

I have a 22-250 T/C Encore, 26 inch bull barrel.
The scope is a Bushnell 6x18x50 A/O
I have a Remington 700 VS 223 also.
The scope is an ATN 4x12x60 w/compensator & lit reticle.
Both are real tack drivers.

I have the savage 223. Great little gun. Dose a great job on coyotes/Foxes and bobcats. Not alot of fur damage. Most of the time dosen't even come out the other side. Use mainly 45 grn.

I use a Savage 12 bvss model 22-250 with the accu-trigger. It's a great gun. Fur damage can be bad if I don't watch out where you put the cross hairs.

I have two Ruger 220 Swifts. Both super shooters. For over two years I've been using a hotter than suggested load of RL 15 pushing a Nosler 55gr Ballistic Tip. Most of my shots are well over 100 yards but I haven't tore up too many coyotes. A good part of it is shot placement. My favorites are the ones that stop while facing straight toward me. Regardless of distance, every coyote that's put itself in that position died before it hit the ground with no fur damage. I've ordered a 4-16x44 Burris Signatute Mil Dot to help with the extreme long shots.
