Ok Guys and Gals, we are just about finished with Volume 2, and we need some help. For those of you that have seen volume 1, you know that it is very fast paced with alot of hunting and very little talking. Todd and myself wanted to go to you guys for your opinions on Vol. 2. Did you like the format of Vol. 1? What would you want us to change on Vol. 2. Would you like more beginner information, more tips and tricks, or just the same old Fast Action? Any ideas you guys might have would really be great. We are closing in on the 50 kill mark again this year, hoping to pass it by a few. So there is going to be plenty of action. Like I said, any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I would also like to thank you guys for all the support we have been getting! Without you we wouldnt be able to do this! Thanks again and Good Hunting. Jeff Thomason

Jeff/Todd, stick with the original format. There are already plenty of "how to" videos out there. Myself, I like the fast-paced, hard-hitting videos. I fast-forward thru all the BS and commercialism anyway. And I also re-play the scenes where the coyote gets worked and maneuvered. That ability is a real display of skill and something I look for in a video. When I watch these videos with my (calling) friends we can get really critical. Too much talking can be a turn-off, but appropriate narration is necessary.

I'm kind of like NASA, only I can't work my remote to fast forward through all of the talking.

I used the instructional segments of videos and a time to raid the fridge.

I really liked your first video. I also appreciate instruction if it concerns something I don't see every day. When we watch a video and and it begins basic instruction we mute it and listen closely to see if we can hear Tim's refrigerator door.

Tim and Higgy don't need a review of the basics, but why not critique the information's value? What do I know, I have only seen a couple videos, ever?

From what I gather, The Texas Predator Pursuit is a heck of a first effort and if the second was (only) as good as the first, that's worth the price of admission. Hollywood should be so lucky, since their "sequels" are usually inferior ripoffs.

Allowing for the fact that these talented folks have asked for comment, I bet they are looking for something a little more useful, besides: keep it the same.

I like to see commentary as the action takes place, even if it provides information not seen in the video. Such as:

"This animal looks like he is making a beeline straight to the call, but he played a lot of hide and seek before committing".

"This animal showed up just as we were breaking off the stand, we made a few mistakes, but he didn't seem to notice".

A little corny, but it does tell more of the story than the stand alone visual. Besides, I have not seen the video, so maybe they are providing this type of information?

You guys that have seen it need to join in! They sold more than two copies.

Good hunting. LB

Everyone has their own style and I was impressed with the manner in which you presented your first video. Man-flick all the way. I’d score it 5 coyotes on a scale of five. (That’s two thumbs up for you Texicans out there).

I wouldn’t change from a style you are already comfortable with, albeit there is nothing wrong with trying something new. A little instruction revealing what works for you might be a revelation to someone. Even the light in ol Leonard’s head might flicker a bit. Just keep it simple. We don’t want him to blow a filament.

Understanding the coyote is not as important as knowing where they are.

I didn't reply earlier, for the reason Leonard alluded to. That being, I think you guys want more constructive input than "Don't change a thing!". But, honestly, that's my opinion. You guys knocked it out of the park on your first one, and I'll gladly get in line to pay for more of the same!

The first version was well put together...

As you know your audience is going to be very disparate..

For the true beginner, you may want to consider some explanation of why you chose the particular location you did... Highlight likely areas from which you feel the coyote will come... and some reasons why; You can't do it on every segment, but it would provide the insight that some thought has to be given to the stand selection... I know alot of beginners that get really frustrated due to calling dozens of stands with no responses.... but when you go with them... you find they are calling in areas that doesn't have the criteria for holding coyotes...

Keep up the great work...

When I received the video, and watched it, I called Jeff to find out if they were planning on a sequel. He said they were collecting footage and should have something in 2005. This was quite a while back. At that time I suggested they present it as a continuation of Vol. 1. My opinion hasn't changed. I have about 16 predator hunting/calling videos. About half are home videos and half commercial. I've probably given away about half a dozen of the commercial ones as they weren't worth the time spent watching them. The ones I've kept are classics. Call me a critic, it's what I get paid to do. [Cool]

Okay guys,
Thanks for all of your input it is very helpfull. We want to make sure we are doing what everyone likes. We love to hear "dont change a thing", I dont think that will ever get old. The suggestions are a big help and for the most part are right in line with what we had planned.
Thanks for the input. What we have decided to do so far is.

#1 show more footage of the settup and calling. (which we have done throughout the year).

#2 Swing around and talk to the camera directly after the shot and try and capture the excitement of the call.(also already done, some)

#3 Go into more detail about the equipment we use. We already laid down a good baseline in vol 1 and we dont want to seem redundent.

#4 Have a seperate section or chapter on the DVD just for the beginners. This will be a 10 minute or so section just on how we like to settup and why. Inclueding what a beginner can do to be succesfull. This way the seasoned caller doesnt have to set through stuff he learned years ago, and can just go strait to the main video( which will be fast pased just like last year with a little more scenery and after that fact action).

Thanks for the input guys. Keep it coming we still have a few more ideas we are working on and yours may be better. We do have a couple tricks up our sleeve that will be a big hit, that have been in the works throughout the year. We were kinda nervous about living up to volume 1, but I think we have done a good job on #2 as well. It Maybe even better that #1, but that will be up to you guys to decide.

Keep it up, We are getting some good ideas.

Todd

Todd,
I agree with Leonard and I like #3 above in your comments. I don't need all the beginner stuff, but one thing that most videos don't have is commentary on what is being filmed. I especially like it when the narrator walks us through the distances as the coyote or cat comes in. Many times I see what I think is a great shot and then find out it was only 60 yards out. The zooming of the camera can really make distances look a lot closer or a lot farther away. That is kind of why I like it when the narrator says "the coyote is @ 200 yards away now", etc., etc. I kind of like to experience the hunt. Don't need a lot of chatter just a few comments explaining what is going on. I really enjoy some of the videos where as the guys are talking after the shot the shooter is usually out of breath. And we know it isn't from the fact that he had to put a lot of effort into the shot. I then know they are human just like me and get an adrenaline rush. Just my $.02 worth.
