When do coyote pups start trying to howl? I now have the answer! Any guesses?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was somewhere around 6-8 weeks? LB

Never had a chance to watch coyote pups, but I used to be responsible for raising upwards of 150 greyhound pups at a time and at about 4 weeks, they suddenly would realize that they could bark. For a while there, the noise would drive you nuts as they test drove their new noise makers. I saw ~4 weeks.

My best guess (within a day or two) is that these pups are now 2 weeks old, and they are trying to howl. It doesn't sound too good, but they are trying. I heard one yesterday and voice howled back and they rear back and try. They really try to answer my wife if she howls. They are living part time with a litter of kittens and I bottle feed them the rest of the time.

Hell, that aint nothing. I've heard them try to howl at one week. By the way, there's a joke waiting to be told about Sherry howling at them. I'll let you know when I think of it. [ April 27, 2006, 06:07 PM: Message edited by: Brad Norman ]

Don't you remember that movie, Brad, with the gym teacher they called Lassie? I told my wife that and she hit me.

Cal
Can they howl continually or do they take a half hour break?

When they are hungry Dennis, they can make as much noise as they want. When they are full they are pretty quiet.
Kind of like Brad Norman, come to think of it.
