With a bow. Killed on one stand. I have killed uncountable triples with a rifle, but never like this. Texas is quite a place. I missed one other one on this same stand. I'm not sure hunting with a rifle there is even fair!

I did shoot another triple with my new 20x47 Lapua. I also killed several coyotes and 2 javelina with the 20. Its a killer.

Wow Cal. That is really super neat! -

I feel like shouting 'Awesome' and fist pumping but I won't. Really, that is something to get to shoot a triple with your archery equip. Just curious. How many shootable, called coyotes did you see? I've always wanted to hunt TX - anywhere with thick coyotes actually. Looks like fun. Where did all that meat go? Is it Spring already in TX? Looks like it.

A triple on coyotes with a bow is pretty damn awesome regardless of how thick they are. I'm guessing that not too many other people have done that, anywhere, anytime. -

Maybe you could try an atlatl next. [Big Grin]

That is just impressive. I'd liked to have just seen you reloading. LOL -

Admit it - somewhere between #2 and #3, you were getting pretty psyched, and when #3 went down, you looked to both sides and did a little fist pump. Didn't ya?

We know ya did.

Yeah, I'm impressed. Triples don't impress me, but with a bow? That's pretty awesome! -

Did you admit to a target rich environment? Even so.

Good hunting. LB

edit: I also wonder about that 20X47 performance? What bullet?

edit: Damn, El Guapo! How long is that barrel?

I still couldn't bring myself to an endzone dance or a fist pump. I really didn't keep track of how many coyotes we saw or called. It was alot. We did well, and that was with Steve, Murphy, me, and a guide or sometimes two on every stand. So 4 or 5 guys at all times if you can imagine. We even got our guides to shoot some. I shot several coyotes with the 20, shooting the 50 grain Berger at about 3900. I'm still playing with loads and just barely had time to get all my brass fireformed and ready before we left. That particular load shot real well and I called it good for now. I was happy with the performance overall, but would have liked to seen more exits. Most of the time I didn't get one. I shot one coyote a little high in the back and it blew the whole back out but all the shoulder shots and head ons stayed inside. I shot one coyote running straight away and it took him a few seconds to die, but he did. Everything else, including pigs and javelina died in their tracks. I shot all three pigs in the head at about 200 yards. They died within feet of each other as fast as I could run my bolt. Both javelina were body shots, one standing and one running. The barrel is a 26 but it looks longer due to the stock forend being shorter. Thats a HS and I don't know why that model has such a short forend but thats the way it came. It was a fun trip and I am going back anytime I get a chance. Hell I'd move there if they'd let me.

Fun trip. I think everybody's jealous; I know I am? -
It's good to know that even after all that control work for so many years, you still get a charge out of a little recreational time in the field. Never gets old, when you have the fever, does it?

A special thanks to Paul for deciphering what the Okie wrote. I had no idea what Kelly was talking about? I don't know how to do that stuff, but agree, it would be justified. You guys need a keyboard wizard and what you got is a cranky, broke down coyote hunter. Sorry 'bout that.

Good hunting. LB

Triples don't impress you?, what does it take to have you sit up and take notice omnipotent one?
An honest triple is pretty good in my book, and I know when describing mulitples, we as a group parse words. When I hear a pair or triple or quad, I always presume the caller is speaking of them coming in as a group and he kills them, not three singles spaced two minutes apart on the same stand? If thats what you allude to, I agree, thats just three the easy way, but to have three, four ro five come in together, and kill them, Im fairly impressed by that, but Im still young and impressionable, without the seasoned years you veterans have:)

I see you found them bow down deals...lol

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on March 10, 2010, 02:48 PM:

AZ, I classify any stand where you drag three animals back to the truck as a triple. I don't care if they come in six minutes apart or together, as far as I'm concerned, it's still a triple. You get an "atta boy" if they are together and you are using a bolt gun.

As I have said numerous times, I once killed six of nine that came in together . (with a bolt gun, too) That doesn't make me a hero, but I still think it was a fucking awesome stand; even if it was only 66%.

Maybe we need to parse these things more often? Maybe if they are beyond a hundred, that's a yawn? Maybe if they are all running, that's a GOLD STAR?

If you kill three that came in together, with a bow, we should take up a collection, assess the membership?

By my definition of a triple, three killed on a stand, freestyle, difficulty 1.2 plus style points, your first time, (like, when you were a kid, THAT first time....you know?) that would be a big deal.

Good hunting. LB

Not totally impressive unless you can sort out and shoot only the white tips and let the old school coyotes go. Now THAT would be impressive.

Six out of 9? What? Did you just plain screw up and miss the other three?!? -

Cal, Very impressive. -

Honestly 3 with a bow killed over a season would be impressive in my book. 3 in a day would be incredible. 3 on one stand with a bow... Wow.

That pig hunting looks like some kinda fun also.

I'm impressed with a triple with a bow, and I don't care how coyote rich an environment it was. I know that don't buy much, but what the hell.

I spent too many years flinging arrows at them out of a tree stand while deer hunting to think that they are not real sharp on detecting a guy drawing a bow.

Was there a ground blind involved?

Posted by 3 Toes (Member # 1327) on March 11, 2010, 06:46 PM:

Nope, no ground blind. On my knees in some brush.

Posted by predatorhunter (Member # 3559) on March 12, 2010, 06:59 AM:

I agree with JoeF, three with a bow is impressive under any circumstance. The only thing impresses me more,is how you got those three coyotes to snuggle up with that speaker and go to sleep so you could sneek up on them!

Posted by predatorhunter (Member # 3559) on March 12, 2010, 07:06 AM:

3Toes, now your gonna have to get a triple with a muzzleloader just to top it.

Posted by DanS (Member # 316) on March 12, 2010, 02:41 PM:

Three with a bow is just too cool. I almost got one, once with my bow, but almost just doesn't count here.

I'd love to see a triple with a blackpowder rifle.

Dan i think that might resemble a 16 year old with his first playboy!!!!

Good hunting. LB

If we're talking taking three out of a group that comes in all at once............not likely to happen with a muzzel loader.

But if we're going to count it as a triple if three singles come in a couple of minutes apart, it possibly could be done with a front stuffer. Moon & planets properly alined, solar/lunar tables in order, good luck horseshoe worn as an earring................
