I went ahead and used up some Cabela's Points on my card and got one of Bushnell's Backtrack GPS units, strictly for calling. The gizmo is a little larger than a stopwatch and not much more complicated to use. It will store all of three waypoints and when it's time to return, will show a 'go that-a-way' arrow. Since all that I want out of this thing is to point me back to the truck when I'm cold calling unfamilliar areas, I think that I'm going to be happy with it. It does NOT have anywhere near the features of my regular GPS unit that is bigger, more complicated to use, and usually in the truck when I need it in the field to find the truck.
Time will tell how usefull this thing turns out to be..................

I've pondered about that thing since they first came out. Like you, I only want it to find my truck the shortest way possible sometimes, especially at night.
Let us know how it works.

Ok, I took my new gizmo up on the Rim to try it in the timber while trying to call in a bear. So far, I like the thing.......as long as I don't expect more from it than it does. I can mark a waypoint such as a trail camera and return to that spot. I can NOT give somebody else the lat/long digits 'cause this unit doesn't show them. Just the basics. Mark a waypoint and the last one on that icon is erased. Direction & distance.
One thing that was noted; the unit didn't seem to like trees, clouds, & canyons all at the same time. A couple of times it took a while to lock on the satelite, but it did always (eventually) find the signal.
