I waited until TA got his call to share a picture of it.

Here it is;

 -

Brad taught me how some of the antler call makers use a brow tine, to make a unique attachment point for the lanyard.

I waited for a long long time, for this piece of wood to dry completely and to stabilize, so I could try the technique.

It's a piece of dogwood, in the round, and that's a branch sticking out that the lanyard passes through.
Right up close it has some interesting fine details in the wood, but it's one of a few, that lost something in the clear coating.
That's usually when the beauty really comes out.

TA,

I hope it brings you some success.

Krusty, What is the lanyard tied to? Is it a small eye-bolt?

It looks great, and very different from any wood call I have seen.

TL,

The lanyard isn't tied "to" anything.

The branch is bored through to the bell chamber, where the knot that joins the two tag ends of the lanyard together, is nested in a socket in the branch.

The knot on the outside, that we see in the photo, is probably not needed.
But I didn't want the lanyard to slip, and have the knot inside block the sound.

TA could untie it, and probably wouldn't have any problems.

Other than having a branch sticking out of it, it's very similar to the bulk of the calls I make. [Smile]

Damn fine idea applying that style to wood, K. That's a one of a kind. I hate the cliche, but that's great outside the box thinking. I think Tim's got himself a winner.

It's not very often I accept praise for my work, without a fight, but this time I am inclined to agree with you guys.

TA got a really good one. [Smile]

But the art doesn't come from me, it comes from the wood.
I can't think of any call I ever worked on, that went as well as that one did.
The final shape isn't far from what I had once the bark was stripped off.

TA's call is just an extension of an idea I borrowed before;

 -

I swear TA, if the piece of wood I made your call from, had been a little longer, you'd have a soapstone ring inlaid around it.
Same goes for Kelly Jackson's new call, I wanted to do the inlay, but I was scared to wreck it.

That'll be the next "big thing" to watch for, some more inlay work. [Wink]

As time goes by, it gets harder and harder to let go of some of these calls.
That was definitely the case with this one.

TA,

It was my pleasure. [Big Grin]
I was actually glad I could provide you with something special, even among custom calls.

Hopefully the unique voice will help with your difficult calling situation.

I look forward to hearing about your success.

I'm in Mississippi tonight and I hope me and my new call both get to the house soon. Youth gun season opens Fridy and I got a date with a 10 yr old little blue eyed blonde. I think she is ready.
