Author Topic: The pred. has come home. TA17Rem Hello, I'm the legendary Tim Anderson, Field Marshall, Southern Minneesota Sector Member # 794 posted September 25, 2007 05:36 PM                    After a vey long wait the pred. has finally come home. Once again SGR custom rifles has done a very good job of building the rifle. The rifles action is a Stiller Pred. action with a 1-9" Lilja barrel chambered in 17 Pred. A Mcmillan Sako hunter stock was used with molded in desert camo. Still waiting for the dies to show up and in the mean time i will make my own brass with some other dies i have laying around. Hopefully this week-end i can break it in and work up some loads..will post some pic's a little later.. -------------------- What if I told you, the left wing and right wing both belong to same bird! I have a .17Remington that I'm pretty fond of. What you have looks like a .17Remington on steroids. I'll have a few questions for you at the campout. I ran the 223 brass through a 223 die to make sure they where straight. Then i outside neck turned the necks and ran the brass through a 17 mach-4 die to get the necks sized down to 17 cal and also move the shoulder down a little. Then i turned the necks one last time to make sure they measured .194 outside dia.. I then ran all 50 case through the chamber of rifle to make sure everything was good to go. Well start loading them tommorrow so they canbe fire formed and gun can get broken in.. -------------------- What if I told you, the left wing and right wing both belong to same bird! " If you really moved the shoulder with your Mach IV die, then either you don't have a .17 Predator, or you are going to have MASSIVE headspace problems with that brass. The shoulder needs to move up (forward) for the .17P, not down (back). You use the Mach IV die to size only part of the neck, to form a false shoulder to headspace on during fireforming. If you are expecting to use the existing shoulder to fireform, you'll have major problems. Hopefully you just got your words mixed up. Maybe only the neck was changed and not the shoulder not 100% sure without measureing. Anyway the bolt closes with a little bit of pressure and no slack in the bolt... -------------------- What if I told you, the left wing and right wing both belong to same bird! Also the first " Knock him down, get back up, and run like the wind shot!!! The pred has come home. Oh and there wasnt even blood. Dont forget to ask TA about it at the campout. Edit: To say you guys need to ask Geordie and Patrick about there 8 coyote day. It was a heck of a day for them. Just the two of them. The second coyote i shot at was at around 50-60 yards and was hit in the shoulder area, the coyote did go down for a second and was back-up and gone before i could get a finishing shot off. As i stated in a earlier post i did'nt have time to get brass fireformed so i could use a Max charge, instead i had to use fire-form loads that where only putting out around 3750-3800 fps. I also clicked on an empty chamber on one but i had Randy Shaw there for back-up and he did a very good job of putting the coyote down.. Futher testing willbe done this winter on coyotes with this rifle and cartridge and i will post the results good or bad and let you all be the judge.. -------------------- What if I told you, the left wing and right wing both belong to same bird!
