Well fellas, I've got the itch for another calling rifle. One that I can rechamber to 223 AI.
I'm looking at a used CZ American that's priced right and hasn't been shot much.
Any of you have an opinion about these guns?
Any help would be appreciated.

I've got a 527 in .223 and love it! Great handling little rifle, shoulders quick and easy, accurate as well.

Tim, I finally got to look at a CZ at a local store. I think it's a pretty decent gun. I really liked the set trigger. I'm dealing with a guy for one that's priced right and will probably buy it. Thanks for you input. I'll try to let you know how it turns out. If I end up buying it I think I might have it rechambered to an Ackley Improved.

Just be careful about that set trigger when wearing gloves.
I'm thick fingered and can't feel it. It tends to go bang and scare the hell out of both me and the coyote.

Ive got two CZs at teh moment, one in 19 Calhoon, the other in .22 Hornet. The weak link in the CZ is the damned magazine. The Calhoon was meticulously worked by James himself, so it performs flawlessly, the hornet is factory, and I usually just put two or three down in the magizine, otherwise, it's prone to jam and nose up on a fast bolt cycle. I had on in 17 rem that was the did the same thing. Outsideof the mag problems, what a great little rifle they are, shoulder like a dream, puts my cheek right where I want it, with my eye right behind the glass, and very, very accurate.

Thanks for the reply's. I made the deal for the rifle but won't have it in hand for a couple of weeks.
I didn't know about problems with the magazine but will post if I have any trouble.
The set trigger could be a problem with gloves but I usually have just a light (liner) glove on my shooting hand.
If I decide to have this 223 Ackley Improved would it be better to have a new barrel installed since the original is short to begin with? I understand Calhoon has new replacement barrels.

I would not be overly concerned about shortening the original installed barrel an inch or so, by rechambering.
True, you loose a few FPS, but you gain enough capacity in the conversion, (this specific example) that you still gain performance.
The only re$ervation would be, does the barrel shoot? If it didn't before, it probably is not worth the effort.

Don't know if you ever considered.
I use leather Thinsulated gloves on [both hands]. On my trigger finger glove. I cut a wide "slit" at the anterior/front base of the index finger.
So when I'm ready to shoot. I just pop my whole finger out of the slit, for full mobility...works swell ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
