Hello all,
I’m in debate on which caliber to stick with and be an ideal round.
This round should handle most if not all North American Predators.
I would like to minimize pelt damage but maintain quick “bang flop” results.
I would like it to shoot pretty flat out to 200yds as I don’t really attempt much beyond that in the case of predators.
I have a .223 VS with a jewel trigger (I must say nice) and a NF Scope that I love and can maintain 1½” to 1¾” groups at 200 with 52gr MHP (Black Hills).
I also have a case of the wants for a new flavor so I was looking for something other than my above setup. Maybe I need to be happy with what I have or is there something I just got to try?
What round covers all of your bases?

It sounds to me as though your present rig is perfect for your needs.

Rob. That sounds like a hell of a rig to me. You just need the same thing in a 22-250, 220 Swift, 243. and a 25-06. We can covert to Acklys later.
See how easy problems are soved around here.
As usual Cal is right. Thats why I have two gun safes full and more than I can remember stuck in closets.

Rob; Just hang on a few more months. Bill Martz will be marketing a Mini-14 rechambered in .17Rem. & each rifle will come with a free aridale.

Ahh your right.
I'll order the 22-250, 220 swift, 243, and 25-06 next Tuesday!
But wait did I hear Kokopelli right?
Bill will be making the KAS-Mini14. I bet it will sound better than other min-14s!

I'll stick with my .223 and be happy.
I did just order a .300win mag from Jerry Rice as I really need to hunt deer with somethin other than the .223.

Rob, feed that beautiful .223 of your's Sierra 1365s and you will never miss any other caliber for predators under 200. Prairie dogs to deer, it's as close to the perfect bullet that you can get.

I know how you feel, I found a bag of new 22-250 brass in the drawer and got to thinking, I "need" another 250.
But reality is what it is and I've been down that road too many times. The 223 is about as perfect for me as they come.

I don't have fox so for coyotes, p-dogs and any other bigger predator I like my 22-250 with 52 gr a-max bullets at 3,700 FPS, stay off the belly in close and you have a knock coyote gun out to 600+yrds.
I consider the 22 cal very minimal for deer in areas where knock down power is needed,many states you need permission to trail wounded big game on private property, those close to fence shots and runners can be avoided with something in the .25 cal range or larger better than the .22 cals.
My next rig will be 25/06 using 100 gr bal tips, I had one back a few years and performed well on coyotes and deer, not much sewing, but again I just need dead coyotes the majority of the time.

Your .223 for predator hunting is a good choice. Since you ordered a 300 WinMag, you should be good for anything else you want to hunt. The ammo for the 300 is a bit pricey though. If you dont reload your probably going to want to start.
