For a year or better I thought I wanted an AR for called multiple targets or follow-up shots.

My buddy just received his Dtech upper in 25 WSSM, so we went out to get it on paper. Didn't like the platform at all. The rifle functioned perfectly. We didn't have any problems. Just didn't like the feel or the spring noise or anything about it.

Can't really put my finger on it. Maybe it didn't seem as "pure" as a bolt action.

Maybe this is another example of getting older, you know "old dog, new tricks" kind of thing.

The good news is I just saved 2k or so!

No need to apologize, my son. I cannot get warm and fuzzy about those damned machine guns, either. Maybe for the next civil insurrection?

Dtech builds a nice, ummm heavy gun. Unfortunately, this ain't what a calling gun is to me.

Given a proper carbean that fits you, weighing 8 pounds or less and still shoots sub MOA, might change your mind. Completely different animal.

I don't keep very good records....in fact, I don't keep any, but I don't think Im far off if I say Ive owned around 15 different AR platform rifles over the years.I was having smiths put on weaver rails and bases on ARs, before rails on ARs were cool, all for competition purposes of course and not hunting.
To date, my wife has shot more coyotes with an AR than I have, and she has killed one. I like the AR platform, and enjoy shooting them, I have two now....again, one in standard machine gun configuration,M4 style, Eotech red dot sight, BUIS flip down irons, Magpul 30 rounds magazines, all that wack job stuff:). The other is a custom job, RRA lower, nice trigger, Lothar Walthar stainless fluted upper in .204, all green furniture with rubberized soft handguard....nice rifle.
I got it for possible hog hunting down here in the south, but I suspect I'll never pull the trigger on anything that bleeds with it either.
Im afraid Im a damned purist too, I love the ARs....just not for hunting. I like to feel wood under my grip and against my cheek, and the way a hunting rifle stock feels in the shoulder pocket as well as the balance.
The Ar platform is an amazing and proven battle rifle, just as the Rem M700 is a proven and amazing hunting rifle....I think I'll just keep them seperate, as it should be:)

Dang! I'm tied with Dorothee! But, the damned thing kept spinning, I think it took a whole magazine to settle his hash? Well, at least 4 shots, as I recall? And, this event was inside 50 yards. That was enough for me. A long time ago, might have been twenty years, still not convinced.

I've seldom seen such treachery, amongst friends?

I can't believe I fell for that cursed PHOTO OP?

edit: who took that pic, koko? I didn't think you had the skill, not to mention the unmitigated gall, to betray me like that!

Ronfin,
If your pard can't like the "sproing", then swap the standard buffer spring with a TUBB flat wire spring

The annoying "sproing" will be a thing of the past...

Tom, someday I'd like to have a light, short callin' gun. My 22-250 weighs in at more than this 25WSSM.

Vic, this AR has an A2 stock and it felt like it wasn't designed to ever fit in a shoulder pocket. Skinny, flat, ambidextrous. But it wasn't just that. LB uses the term machine gun, and I have always assumed he's just joking about the full auto versions. But I think "machine" is how I came away feeling about the receiver.

knockem, my buddy was wearing big ear protection. I'd bet he won't hear the sproing until the first time he hunts with it. He probably won't care either. He's one of those "throw it in the sand, stomp on it, and throw it in the truck" guys.

El Bee;
I was nothing but a pawn in a larger chain of events. I'm a victim here also. There were forces of evil that wanted to Photo-Shop that picture, putting you into a wheel chair & attended by Janet Reno in a mini-skirted nurse's uniform. I put my foot down and said no way. Besides, I don't have Photo-Shop. Remember, no matter how it looks, we've got your back!!!! [Cool]

RonFin,

Agreed. Don't care for an AR as a hunting rifle.
