I need the best coyote bullet, accuracy and terminal performance.....at wimpy 223 Remington velocities.

I'm shooting the Hornady 55 grain SPSX in mine. I keep trying others but always come back to them.

I load them over 25 grains of 748, but can't recall how fast they are.

50 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip, sitting on top of 27.0 of W748, very accurate in any 223 Ive shot them thru. Can't get my mind around your statement concerning "wimpy" velocities? this combo is pushing 3300-3400 fps, what in the world is wimpy about that?
You've been using those big boomers way to long Leonard, it doesn't take much to kill a coyote. Tim and I have been killing them a long time using our BB guns, and a sundry of other miniscule calibers:)

Yeah, I know. It's a mental block, type of thing. Also, don't really want to destroy my street cred. This is uncharted territory for me, I gave up on 223 many years ago, mainly because of wanting to anchor them real hard while night hunting. Searching for runners, at night is for the birds.

Also, I was more or less thinking of a heavier bullet than 50 grain, but I do know that the 50 Nosler is a good one, as 50s go? I may very well give it a try. Most fifties, I consider to be more suited for squirrels.

748 is one powder I intend to try, along with a couple others.

Also, Tim. I have used the 55 SX, it's good for what I want to do. I think they put a little piece of paper inside warning against exceeding 3500fps. Used to, anyway?

I'll be honest, I usually look around and just clean stuff off the shelf, for 223. Odds and ends: bullets that I have no other use for. [Razz]

If you can slip it between the ribs broadside, the 55 V-max, the 55 Nosler or even the lighter bullets work fine. If you are a mere human and have to deal with shoulders and bad angles, not to mention "imperfect shot placement" the 69MK is a more reliable way to reach vital organs.

If I still owned a .223, I'd most likely use the 1365 too. It's what I use in my .22-250's.

Only got about 3050 or so, with 55's using 748 in my Model Seven. Most should do better.

I like the sierra 1365's in my .223 ackley. 26 grains of benchmark puts it at about 3450 fps.GOOD HUNTING C.O

What barrel length are you shooting Leonard? Im getting over 3600 with 50 Blitz's in mine. high 3500's should be easy unless I've got an odd tube.

just recently finished load development for my .223.I had much better groups using a 50 grain V-Max than I did with 50 grain Ballistic tips.....26.4 grns of Benchmark powder,Rem.7 1/2 primer, in a Win.Case.Average Vel is 3500 fps,in a 26" barrel.One inch high at 100,is dead on at 200 and 2 1/2" low at 250.Benchmark meters very well and is an extruded powder which tolerates big temp.swings.The .223 is'nt my first choice for calling coyotes because of it's trajectory,but the low recoil allows you to keep your sight picture upon firing, allowing you to watch the bullet impact.

I use a 52gr AMax with good success on coyotes. H335 is the powder. Mine likes 26.8gr, but its improved. Dont know what a standard 223 load would be.

The Amax does a good job killing and dont get too many exits.
