I'm just asking:

What is it that you like about a Burris?

Specifics.

Thanks, I appreciate your time. LB

Leonard. I am 58 year old, Extremely hard headed Texan. Until two years ago they only made Leupold..........I had seven Leupolds. Now I have seven Burris scopes.

I was building a 1000 yard rifle. I got very strong advice to put a Burris Black Diamond on it. So strong was the mans believe that I would be happy with it. He promised to buy it if I did not like it.

My gunsmith beat John Lazzeroni in a 1000yard match with the Burris on my 300 Win mag. Lazzeroni was shooting one of his Warbirds with a Smit& Bender. Now lets get down to the meat & taters.

I bought the Full Field II 3 x 9 Ballisticplex for $198.00. I mounted it on my .243 calling rifle. The first time I took it hunting was a evening hunt. my partner had a Zeiss on his rifle. We staid till dark. I could barely see a black cow at about 300 yards. When I looked through the Burris, Not only could I see the crosshairs on a black cow. I could split her ear with them. Looking through my partners Zeiss we could not make out the cross hairs on the cow. He ordered a Burris the next morning.

Story#2

We took my two story trailer out for a night hunt on a full moon. The coyote made us from down wind. Before getting down I looked at a gate 200 yards away in the moon light. The gate was made out of 3/4" sucker rod. Not only could I see the gate. I could see the cross hairs on the 3/4" rod. My partner on this trip had his pet .243 with a Leupold 3.5 X 10 Vari X III. He could make out his cross hairs, But in no way could he see them on the rod. He had the Leupold on that rifle for 19 years. He now owns five Burris scopes.

Now remember I am not comparing the Black Diamond against a Zeiss or Leupold, But a $198.00 Fullfield II.

If some one tries a Burris. Make SURE that you follow the focus instructions that come with it.

When Coonass asked me about a Burris. I told him if he did not like it. I would give him all his money back plus shipping if he did not like it. All I herd from him was thank you notes for a month. I think he now has two Burris Full Fields that replaced Leupolds.

I like Burris for their quality, construction, clarity, brightness, repeatable adjustments and value for the hard earned money I lay out to purchase a scope. I too used to think leupold hung the moon, but I can't think of one measurable difference that separates the two, other than the exhorbitant price of that little gold ring. Like Varmint made mention of, the Burris Fullfield ll,3x9 BallisticPlex is an absolutely terrific scope.

Okay, good answers.

Is the price differential that much? Seems like they get a pretty good price for the Signature and Black Diamond lines?

I have a Signature 6X24, but it's been in a box for a couple years. I sometimes mount it when I've evaluating loads for differnt guns, but I think the low light capability is marginal. Could be just this model, I don't know?

One thing I can say is they are beautifully made, and they look like they can take abuse.

Good hunting. LB

Leonard,
As we speak I am contemplating buying the 3-9 Fullfield with the Ballistic Plex. I just have to decide which rifle I am going to buy to put it on. I am quite impressed with the scope.

I have had four burris scopes two 6x18 fullfield and 1 4X16 signature and 1 four power signature. the four power signature is sitting in it's orginal box waiting to be sent for repair. About twenty shots on a 300 Win and the cross hairs are V'd. The 4 X 16 signature was sent back and fixed the parallex was out according to the papers that where returned with the scope, The largest rifle that this scope was on was a 22-250. I no longer have this scope as it went south on a trade. the 6 X 18 have been good performers but due to the problems that I have had with the signature models I am reluctant to purchase another burris scope.

Well, I certainly don't want only the good news, and appreciate Albert's input. These things probably happen with just about every brand out there?

However, I didn't mean to turn this inquiry into negative stuff. As the topic says; let's hear (mainly) from the "fans".

There are those that are sold on Nightforce, Leupold, Swaravoski, etc. I think it's hard to go wrong with any of those, for example; and Burris is another of the upper tier brands.

It's just that we have had some glowing testimonials for Burris lately, and I wanted those folks to jump in here and tell me what blows their skirt up about Burris.

To be completely honest, I'm sort of the same attitude as Albert; reluctant to buy another one.

Good hunting. LB

Well, Here's my Burris story. I was working as a denner for Natrona county here in Wyoming a few years back and the scope on my calling, denning rifle was a straight 10 Leupold. I got along good with that scope, but every once in a while it would move a little. I would hit a coyote just a little off, or something would make me put it on paper, and it would be an inch or two this way or that. I figured it might be the gun. Now you have to take into account that my gun at that time got no days off. It didn't set in a closet. It was in the rack in my truck bouncing down dusty roads every day. I think that is the worst abuse a scope can get. Anyway I mentioned it to the other trapper one day (about it moving) and he said he had the same problem with Leupolds. He had switched to Burris and the problem stopped. So I went and bought a Signature series and stuck it on that rifle. It is still there today and I have never had the point of impact change, ever. That has been about 4 years of hard use. I still pack that gun most days. It may not be as pretty as some and it may not gather quite as much light as some, but that scope has been a good one. If it's my money I'll buy another Burris. I like the Signature series and Black Diamonds. I did buy a Burris compact once and didn't like it. The eye relief was real critical and I had it on a .338 so it had to go.

I too am a Burris fan. I have a 3x9 fullfield II on a 300 win. mag. On a December cow elk hunt, while holding on the back of a snowmobile at about 45 mi/hr, I became airborn, The burris scope was the first thing to land and then me on rifle and scope. An hour later, a 400 yard shot in the early light looking into the sun as the cow stood on the crest of the hill. I could see the cross hairs nicely, I placed the shot a little high and dropped her were she stood. Found the bullet in her heart. So you could guess the next scope I bought was a Sightron, yep, 3x12, and I love it just as much. Next I'd like to try an illuminated Springfield.

I tell you what, I have two Burris scopes, three Leopolds, and a Sightron thrown in just to make things interesting. I also used to have a Burris handguns scope.

I really do like the Burris quality, they have clear lenses, and their tech folks are second to none.

They are in a dead heat with Leopold in my opinion, I get whichever happens to be a "deal" on the day I go scope shopping.

I've had a Burris Mini 3x9 on a Winchester Featherweight 257AI for about 20 years & it never changes zero. I just bought a 3x9 Fullfield II Ballistic Plex & I am impressed. It is very clear & bright, accurate & rugged (got banged around during a December hunt). I have one complaint. I use Butler Creek scope covers & when I change power the eye piece is turned & takes the scope cover with it.

I will probably buy another.

I've been a Burris fan since about 1985. For the money I don't think you can beat them. All my Custom guns, except one, sport Burris along with many factory guns. Old Purp has a Fullfield II 4.5x14. You see what I've been doing with that rig. That scoped changed the rifle 3 years ago when I put it on and made the perfect coyote gun.
I have several Signature Series from 4x16 to 8x32. They may be long and heavy but you can count on them. I haven't had any problems with them yet either. Had to send two Leupold's back. That burns me up.

Varmint Hunter,
May I suggest that maybe the lenses of your friends Zeiss were dirty or he had a plastic cover over the lense to protect it. My hunting partner has a 3X9 Burris ballistic plex on his 10-22. My 15 year old Zeiss 6X fixed power is noticeably brighter, no distortion around the edges(the Burris did).I have had recent experience with the IOR Valdada line of scopes and binoculars. I don't know what, if any, experience DAA has with them but mine have been Zeiss quality on a beer budget. They are well worth a look.

Well I just took the Burris plunge.Just Bought a new Fullfield II 4.5x14 for my 22-250.I was getting tired of packing my rifle with my long, and heavy 6x18 scope. So far I have been very impressed.Very clear and great light gathering.I also like the fact that it is quite a bit shorter and lighter than my other setup.GOOD HUNTING C.O
