Sorry for cross-posting this on several boards, but I think it's worthy of anyone and everyone in the calling "industry" to see and support...

Sly Dog sent me a Christmas card this year with some great pictures on it and in it of some of the kids he's worked with this season. I just have to post these pictures so the rest of you can know for certain how much we can do to make things a little brighter for disadvantaged kids. Sorry for the quality of this first one. It's a copy of a copy.

From L to R: Jimmy Nasados, Keegan Hemphill, The Dog himself, Calib Hemphill and Matt Hightower.

Five for five turkeys over a two-day hunt.

And this one,

This is Jimmy Nasados and his first (hopefully, of many) antelope.

There's not a one of us is ever going to change the whole world, but each of us can do a little something to maybe make things better for another family or child that hasn't been blessed with as much as we take for granted each day. For Sly, it's his youth hunter program. Those smiles tell the whole story.

For me, inspired by Sly and what he does, I convinced my family to surrender a little of their Christmas and redirect that money toward buying gifts for a single mom and her two young girls - kids that would be going to school on January 3rd to hear all the other kids telling great stories of what Santa Claus brought them. Now, it's our hope, there are two little girls that won't have to sit to the side and wonder in their little hearts why Santa was so generous with other kids while they seemed to be left out. It didn't cost us much, especially compared to what we "bought" with it, but the dividends may be realized many years from now when those little girls, like all of Sly's kids, can look back and know in their hearts that there are people in this world that give a darned!

I challenge each of you to keep looking out this year for someone who, despite their best intentions, is struggling to make a good life for themselves and their kids. Offer to help them out with Christmas when next season approaches, or take them by the hand and help to teach them how to make better decisions for them and their families. Sometimes, that's all it takes. If you don't know of anyone that fits that description (and who doesn't?), send your pocket change to Sly Dog and he'll see that it's put to good use. These smiles are proof of that.

I am only one. But still, I am one. I cannot do everything, but still, I can do something; and, because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.
