Everybody has their good days and their not so good days. I make an effort to run this Board in the best way I know how. Some may disagree on that point and that is their privilage, it's what makes the world go around.

From time to time, although I make every effort to keep all discussions respectful and cordial, we have an acute difference of opinion. Every occasionally, I get involved in the debate. I have no problem with debate, in fact, I rather enjoy it, as long as it stays (nominally) polite.

Now, I don't think I walk on water, but because I'm a senior citizen, I appreciate being given the benefit of the doubt, if my views are 180º from your own. Polite disagreement, and respectful requests go a long way with me.

Demands are frowned on; an abusive tone will get my hackles up. I try very hard to treat all my guests as my personal friends. My personal friends (generally) do not talk rudely to me. Why would anyone speak rudely to a friend? Do you use abusive language with your mother? Do you make demands of someone that is according you the hospitality of their home? Huntmasters is my home. It is an open forum where we can talk about ANYTHING.

Generally speaking, well bred people know that if they have a problem with the host, they would speak to him in private, rather than attempting to embarass him in public. This seems to be basic expected behavior, in a polite society.

I have suspended posting priviliges on occasion for a very few members. Somehow, they managed to do something or say something that didn't go over too good.

I have relented and restored posting privileges in every case over the years, except for one person that has about four bogus accounts; he requires constant vigilance. It is an imperfect solution, but the only one at my disposal.

Recently, a member provoked my wrath. I suspended his posting priviliges and he became extremely insulting and abusive, totally inappropriate reaction. Had he broached the subject of his displeasure in a civil manor, I probably could have accomodated him immediately and saved everybody a lot of grief?

Now, as is my custom, I'm going to release his permissions with one stiputation. Last chance, no rehashing; the subject is closed ; and free advice, do not pick a fight with the management that you cannot win.

I actually do not want this member back, he has worn out his welcome as far as I'm concerned. He also said he doesn't want it restored, but that's too bad, it's a management decision.

I am restoring his membership in good standing and the slate is wiped clean, (sorta) but he will (understandably) be on a very short leash. I doubt he will be able to handle it, but I'm willing to do this because I have always wanted to conduct this Board in as fair a manor as it is possible for me to do. And, I'm just an old softy.

I'm not going to use names, if you don't know who I'm talking about, that's too bad.

I am sorry to take this space for this discusion, but perhaps it will help someone, sometime to understand how difficult it is to maintain my policy of no edits and no deletes, as much as I can. In plain language; there are limits.

I sincerely try to be polite and respect all my friends and members. My friend, Bruce Kennedy once told me privately and has also said, in public; "everybody should have to spend one year running a message board". That would go a long way toward understanding what I expect, and what all of you should expect from me.

Another thing. I never hold a grudge. That's all I have to say about this and I appreciate your indulgence. I appreciate every one of you, this is your house as much as it is mine.

Thank you.

Good hunting. LB

Leonard,
You are a good man and I agree with all which you have said. This message board has the most knowledgeable predator hunters in the country and I appreciate that.

I have two older brothers...My mom has a sign in her kitchen which reads, "There is a special place in heaven for the mother of three boys." Maybe the same rings true for moderators of message boards. Thanks again.

At 8:46, an hour and nine minutes after I made the above post, I found this in my spam folder....proving at least, that our subject is following the Board rather closely. It also indicates that my rehabilitation efforts are probably a waste of time. <sigh>

Leonard,

I think you are doing a hell of a good job, during some difficult times.

( And I'm damned glad it's not me in your shoes )

To show my appreciation, if I can get my jeep running tonight, I'll go out this weekend and kill a few coyotes. Then toss them out in a select location as a sacrifice to the coyote gods in honor of the Great Lenbo! [Wink]

Cool!
You are officially a "Pampass Knowitall living in a
Funky Haze".
If you hum that to Hendrix's "Purple Haze" it's kinda catchy.

Leonard you do a hell of a job running this board. I kind of compare you to my old shop teacher back in school... he was a pretty cool guy that knew his way around the woodshop. Inevitably when you got that many teenage boys together there are going to be fights and horseplay but he had a way of knowing WHO to kick out of class and who to roll his eyes at.

Some of us were good workers that occasionally got sidetracked, others were just worthless goofballs trying to blend in with the crowd. I think you do a good job of pruning the good/bad and ugly around here and I trust your judgement!

Your latest culprit has raised my suspicions before. When a guy gets banned from Predator Masters for posting a picture of a dead coyote then something is wrong, either with the MOD or the SITE! His judgement is obviously poor... then and now.

Higgins, you are so "up" on trendy stuff! All this time I thought it was a Purple Rain?

Good hunting.

Scott, I refuted every one of your concerns, and lost it! I could scream, right now!

But, I did send you some relevant correspondence, so maybe you can revise a few of your assumptions?

Man, this is a hard one to keep up with. First it public, then private, then popped up with it's own forum for a couple days and was public again, then private, now today public again with this thread, then Scott made some points that I agreed with, then stuff was sent in private to him as a response.

My gosh, it's like listening to my wife talk to her mother on the phone. She talks with on speaker phone for awhile, then turns off the speaker and talks normally for awhile and I hear just half the conversation, then turns the speaker phone back on, and then off, and then on, and then off.... Back and forth... My gosh, after not too long I leave the room and fine something to do somewhere else...

And that's what I would do here, but man, the drama. [Smile] I didn't see the plot twist with Scott's post coming. It was a surprise, a refreshing one at that (someone who chooses fairness over friends).

I think this might make a rivoting reality series. Lots of interesting personalities, lots of history, lots of twists and turns.

later,
scruffy

Tom, have you not heard? I'm an invalid, this is my life for a bit linger.

Scruffy, I know it is hard to follow, and it has to be that way. All you really need to know is that I want everybody to enjoy themselves on Huntmasters.

Scott, you do not understand my position. I made everything clear, but lost it at the last minute because my wife signed on from another location under my name and I got booted. There is no double standard if you realize that I was speaking about the initial post, taking me to task. I meant that post should have been an email to me. It has nothing to do with all the $hit that has occured since, and I have no moral or ethical concerns about privacy in sharing unsigned spam from bogus email addresses, and remote IP addresses. Get real. I have blocked communication from all his known locations, there is not nothing I need to hear from him, but he intrudes on my privacy with the unwanted spam and the phone calls. I think your concerns about fairness are grossly misplaced. This guy has managed to get his "fairness" and "benefit of the doubt" revoked. He does not deserve fairness because of his actions. Simple as that. I would appreciate it if you would tackle another subject with your "fairness" concerns. I will do what I need to do, you aren't going to influence my thinking or my actions. So drop it, amigo.

Good hunting. LB

Leonard,

I'll yell ya this bud.

You are a hell of a lot nicer than I would be in your situation.

Especially when people starting invading your personal life to the degree that happened to you.

Not only would that guy be banned. He would not get an invite back.

And if he persisted on calling and such I would take it to a level that the invidual would not be comfortable with.

That said..I have a ...(wait for it)....DEMAND! [Big Grin]

Just kidding...but we do need a BOTD section [Cool]

Where in the hell did you get that? Another thing, regardless of if I hunt from the truck or from the ground, I never leave them lay. Never have and never will. Your knowledge of "my forte" is non existant.

You should keep your suggestions on this issue to yourself, Tom. If you aren't with me, you are against me.

I'll get out hunting when I'm able; I'm still on crutches, fer cripes sake.

Whatever your motivation, I'm telling you, it's not your place to try to change the subject or criticize my actions. Go do that on PM, I do not welcome it here. I can't be more clear. LB

It's like this Scott.

I have never before asked you to stay out of something that does not concern you. You disappoint me. As a gesture of friendship and respect, you should honor my request. Your opinion on any subject under the sun has value for me, but this is not your business. So, any way you want to spin it, you don't have to tip toe around anything, except this particular issue. You know damned well that I'm not going to ban you.

I don't know why a few people mistakenly believe there is fairness and freedom of speech on Internet message boards? If you think people can say what they please, go over to PM and try it. You won't get far. On Huntmasters, it's simple. I decide what is fair. We don't take a vote.

Do I allow discenting opinion? Come on. There are literally hundreds of thousands of opinions that have been expressed on Huntmasters, whether I happen to agree or not. This is hardly cruel, unfair censorship; I have never tried to control what is said.

But, I'm the administrator, and this is one of the things I do....all by myself.

On a bright note. There seems to be a small olive branch. I actually have not read it, just quickly scanned it, but perhaps, if I quit with the "digs" which are provoked by our "fairness" advocates, then he might go away and stop being a pest. (not meant as a dig) In return, I won't publish the embarassingly rude name calling by telephone and email. What is it now, how many different hotmail accounts?

I don't know, his name is already on the ban list. That may be a small inconvenience for those people with the same first name, at least for a short time.

And I had to set up a screening of new registrations, and put them on a Queue for approval. If they pass my sniff test, I approve them, but it is a minor inconvenience for the new members that want to post now, not later, whenever I can get to them.

So, I am willing to not mention his name OR make digs, but in order to do that; if our fairness advocates must talk about this person, I in return, must summarily delete the entire post, and then I won't have to make a dig in response.

Again, apologies all around. I know we don't come here for cat fights.

Good hunting. LB
