Way to go Leonard!!!! You have obviously provided a home where those two young parents felt safe enough to grow and reproduce! How cool, I'd love to have one of those critters.
After leaving your home, we all disscussed the possibility of also building a cinder-block wall around our back yard to keep tortoises. The way you've made your home into a refuge without making it look like a zoo is incredible. Your home inside and out is gorgeous!
Let me know if you find any others. Will you need to keep them in some sort of containment to keep them safe from the birds until they get
bigger? Too Cool!!!! ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Yeah, big surprise, there he was, crawling in the lava. I have him in Sam's (iguana) aquarium, right now. He is way too little, crows and cats and 'possums would eat him if given a chance. I don't even know where he came from, they dug in three different places, and I see no recent disturbance? Maybe he was hatched right inside their burrow? It appears that he is at least 2-3 days old? There might be more? I looked, but I could have easily missed something that small. Parents are about 12-13 years old, born in captivity; California Mojave Desert Tortoises. Endangered species.

"California Mojave Desert Tortoises. Endangered species." Can't get much more specific than that. There is a Sonoran sunspecies on the other side of the Colorado River, in Arizona and Mexico, but I can't tell them apart?
I found the spot. The rest (apparently) didn't make it? I dug up empty shells and eggs with yoke still in them, maybe 5 or 6? Can't be completely sure? Who knows, animals might have already got a few?

Hey Loco, it's rather obvious that you did not do well in HS biology class.
Although, I don't mind nursing a bit myself from time to time. NASA, I'll explain this later.

I found a baby desert tortoise walking through my back yard this morning. thing still had a soft shell. my youngest daughter thought it was pretty neat! guess this must be the time of year they hatch.

Cute little bugger. I had a pair of baby Leopard tortoises maybe 10 years back. Fun to have.
Who knows? Maybe you'll discover another.
