And it was great!!
Went out to my favorite calling spot this morning. Cool, crisp, frost, sun, no wind. First stand, I saw cattle stirring over a quarter mile out, about 5 minutes into it, and knew something was happening. Finally I saw the coyote slipping down the ditch toward me, still quite a ways out. Thought it was going to be a done deal. Then I saw him leaving. Couldnt figger it out. Until I saw the farmer coming up the road with a rifle out the window. He didnt know I was calling and was trying to get a shot at the coyote he saw on the way in, same one. LOL
He said he was fixin to burn some brush piles so I was done there. He told me I should go over to another guys place that was having trouble with foxes getting his chickens. Fox season dont open until the 15th, but I went anyway. Introduced myself to the owners and told them he sent me. They said they not only had fox troubles, but had seen 9 bobcats in the last two weeks in different places. Thought there was a tom, two females and six kittens. And coyotes. And badgers, which is a major bonus in this area. Anyway, they dont want me to do anything until after deer season, at least season will be open then for the fox and bobcats, and I would have sole permission on their 2000+ acres!! Major score in this country. He said he would like to get a bobcat and I told him he could use my rifle and I would call and film, that way he could not only get a cat to mount, but have it all on film. He liked that too.
Anyway, on the way home, I stopped and asked another fella that I have been eyeing his place for a couple years now. It looks prime. He said yes and got another 500 acres.
Went home and got my pussy wagon (atv) and dogs and went out and took them for a 4 mile run/ hunt. They treed two fox squirrels for me, or for them, I havent figgered out who hunts for who with dogs. Anyway, got a couple and they got some good exercise and all had fun.
Just got done with a steak dinner and a big ole 5 Vegas Series A smoke.
Life is good. I gotta take a day off more often.

Sounds like a good day. I woke up to the same cool, crisp morning. Cold as hell yesterday. Not so much today. At dark thirty, the wind was barely a whisper in the cottonwoods. By 8, it was moving the grass around. By nine, it was laying small trees over and stirring uip dustnados on the roads.
Seven stands and didn't see a thing. Even the cattle were laying down today. We're starting into the better part of rut and I didn't even see a deer moving. I did see one pheasant creeping slow and low through the tallgrass though.
On the plus side, I came home to a sick kid and had time to sit down and figure out just how much ground we have to ourselves this season. Just a hair under 49,000 acres. everyone else that hunts around here hates us. LOL
Your day was better. BTW, did you or the farmer either one get that coyote?

Awesome Andy! What a day!
Off I go for 5 days tomorrow afternoon. The deer and elk combo season starts at day break but I have a couple of major work things to get done tomorrow. Man, I hate prioritizing, but I'd really like to come back home and find that I still have a company!
