I allow a lot, Tom. What you posted was an advertisement for another hunting related message board. If the gentleman involved would come in here and mention it, that's a little different. But, I do allow a lot of free ads for many different things and links and stuff. But I am not obligated to allow my message board as a springboard for harvesting my members.

Good hunting. LB

Maybe I just beat him to the punch, but it's Tripp. His site is just about Texas stuff but since he's a member here I thought folks might want to say "Hi" to him. I did.

Guess you all are talking about me!

I've started a forum about hunting in Texas. It covers all types of hunting, gear, classifieds, etc. It's not intended to be a competing site to this one as it's Texas based and only has one thread area for discussion of predator hunting.

I didn't really feel comfortable mentioning it here as my intention is not to take any traffic from this site. This is the best predator hunting site going today in my opinion and I'd like to help Leonard keep it that way!

For all other types of hunting, and hunting in Texas, if anyone would care to drop by and look around, the address is www.huntingtexasonline.com.

Hope this solves the mystery!

Good luck with your venture, Trip.

Personally, I will not participate because I disagree with almost all of your rules of conduct. The policy statement for registering on Huntmasters says that we do not have a set of rules; because I believe in free speech. LB

See below:

Welcome to Hunting Texas Online! HTO exists to be an informative, helpful, fun and friendly online community, to further hunting, conservation and the great outdoors. Please read the rules of conduct below and follow them during all visits to HTO. If you do not like or agree to the rules of conduct, that is fine but please exit HTO immediately. Staying on HTO indicates your agreement to all stated rules and regulations.

1) Keep it clean. Other than the occasional hell or damn, profanity will not be tolerated.
2) No personal attacks on other members, posters or advertisers will be allowed. Respectful debate, contrary statement of opinions and critical reviews of a received good or service are welcome.
3) Discussion, mention or jokes regarding illegal substances, activities or behaviors will not be tolerated unless commenting on a news story or current event.
4) No inflammatory posts, flames or trolling will be allowed.
5) No racism, sexism or religious intolerance will be allowed. This is a hunting site. There is no place for discussion of sex, race or religion here.
6) No pornographic images, photographs or avatars are permitted. If your mother wouldn’t approve (we’ll assume she approves of hunting) of an image you’d like to post, odds are neither will HTO.
7) Nothing is to be offered for sale and no self-promotion or promotion of goods or services is permitted in forum areas other than “The Tradin’ Post.”
8) No active discussion of competing bulletin boards or forums will be permitted.
9) HTO excepts no responsibility for any business transactions conducted as a result of solicitations posted here. If you have issues with a party, resolve it offline or via email or other private conversations. Setting disputes will not be tolerated on the site.
10) Spamming or solicitation of members through email addresses or other information obtained on this site is prohibited. Any member information obtained may not be given or sold to a third party or used for solicitation purposes. You are more than welcome to advertise goods and serves in The Tradin’ Post and let members respond. Violators of this rule will be permanently banned without warning.
11) HuntingTexasOnline.com does not engage in spamming and will not give or sell any member information obtained.
12) You are expected to always conduct yourself and postings in a manner that is cordial and respectful to all members, advertisers, moderators and administrators.
13) All decisions made by HTO administrators or moderators are final.
14) Remaining on this site or becoming a member of HTO constitutes your agreement and legal acceptance of all HTO forum rules and policies.

Failure to comply with any of these rules could result in a warning, or temporary or permanent revocation of board membership.

Thank you and we hope you all have a great experience on HTO!

Leonard,

Thanks for the well wishes. I guess you could call this a venture, but it's not intended to be a money maker. I'm just trying to do my part to keep hunting in the forefront and available to as many folks as possible.

The forum rules that I have posted are rules that were strongly recommended to me by another forum owner that has unfortunately had several legal disputes arise since he's had his board. He has found that these rules have helped him.

After reading your post and giving it some thought I do feel however that rule #8 does go a bit far. As I'm not trying to make money off this site (that could change at a later date, but hell if I know), I really don't care if people come and try to recruit members, etc. or talk about other sites. The more the merrier I say. I belong to several hunting sites and to be honest I think it's healthy.

As a result, rule #8 is going away as soon as I can get into the control panel and change it.

Thanks for your input!

Tripp

P.S. I may decide to change or delete other rules as time goes on, but until I get my feet wet dealing with a board and all it's trimmings, I'm going to leave things as they are for the time being.

Trip, I hope you understand that I'm not trying to blow you out of the water. I have a very liberal attitude about links, advertisements and such. Colorful language and telling somebody to fu*k off is also permitted. I figure we are all adults and can defend ourselves as needed. I'm against porno, but a little flesh doesn't bother me too much. Whatever you have for sale is welcome, inflammatory posts are usually permitted, as is respectful debate. And, even if an administrative decision is made, they are never final. In short, we have here as open a forum as you will ever find, on the Internet.

And, there is a place for all of us at the table. You are correct that the first thing I saw and reacted to was that little gem, number 8, following a link from Huntmasters! A bit ironic.

You are entitled to run things as you see fit. I am not attempting to influence your policies in any way, so I hope you understand my attitude. [Smile] [Smile]

Again, good luck to you!

Good hunting. LB

edit: Bruce Kennedy once told me; "Everybody should administer a message board for a year or so." You will find out what the "rewards" are, very soon.

That sure enough is a handful of rules. Every board has to have them in one form or fashion, I guess. The one I always TRY to follow is never piss off the host. Unless the host happens to consist of a band of goons and fluffers. No board in particular in mind with that comment.

What happened with the skunk?

Geez.

PS To LB,Could you change my location to Iron County,UT please?I thought my computer would figure it out on its own,but apparently not.In my defense I feel compelled to add that I have on MANY occasions alerted my computer to the fact that it is no longer in the UP of MI;thus far it has disinclined to aquiesce.

If you need to come to my house and thwack the computer,I'll leave the door unlocked.

When Danny finds out what a "Fluffer" is, I'm betting there will be a new Banned word in his house!

Close, but not quite. But that would be a true statement for the WWW. But the internet includes Usenet. Most groups there are completely unmoderated. You can say or do most anything, as long as it is legal in the Country that you post from.

Best of luck with your board, but you left out.....

Hope that you're still going to hang out here now & then.

A "fluffer" is a girl that stays off camera and gets the guys "ready" or keeps them "ready" before or in between shoots of a naughty movie.

I know weird stuff like that!!

Browning's definition is certainly the "original" meaning of the term. It has since been expanded to include anybody that makes a practice of inflating another person's ego in order to gain influence or favor with that person.

(Sort of what "ass-kissers" meant back in HS)
