You know how it is when the coyotes aren't biting. You just sit there hitting buttons and your mind begins to wander. Saw something and heard something today that caused me to take pause and wonder..

Saw a guy and his bird dog hunting together this morning. Quarter-section of CRP grass- a half-mile square, 160-acres - all to themselves, him and the dog, and not a living soul out there to get in their way. The guy had on a hunter orange vest and matching ball cap. [Confused]

Why? Was he afraid that his dog would shoot him? I could see the vest if it was the only one he owned, but why the damned cap? Was it lucky? is he the only guy in KS who owns just ONE cap? Just kinda struck me as funny.

Later, I was listening to the news and they were discussing the rampant looting in Haiti.

Have you ever thought about how inherently ineffective and inefficient looters are? I mean, maybe it's because they're undereducated, coming from 3rd world countries, and low income American inner city neighborhoods. But, why do these people NOT do what they do until a natural disaster occurs resulting in their 'hoods being chockful of cops and soldiers and the like? Sounds to me like they're just asking to get caught.

What they need to do is pick a quiet, bucolic little town without a care in the world and just start looting. Can you imagine how much stuff you'd get away with before someone realized that looting was rampant in their neighborhood? Talk about the element of surprise!!!

Of course, success in this endeavor is all about timing and execution, and that's why third world countries and low income inner city neighborhoods don't get any better. Just plain stupid people who don't think outside the box.

I think he was more worried about you or others that may also be out and about with rifles.. [Eek!]
Don't know about youre state but here you have to have orange on when bird hunting even if on private property.. Its a good thing!

Here, you don't. We don't need the state to remind us of what might be downrange. Orange is only required for firearms deer hunting and only because 99.7% of those yahoos only shoot their rifles twice a year - once at a target so that they can say it "sighted in" even though it's grouping twelve inches or better and the second time, at their deer. More, if it takes them more shots to get one that actually drops in its tracks 'cause God forbid they actually had to track one down that wasn't dead right away. And, most of them are sitting in a camouflaged blind while wearing hunter orange. Tell me what the hell good that does?!? Helps the EMT's find the entrance and exit wounds better when someone shoots you through the sidewall of your blind? Maybe blinds ought to be painted hunter orange. Then, while you're inside, you can wear a friggin' pink tutu, eskimo boots and a football helmet if that's what floats your boat. Did you ever think about that?!? Things that make you go, "Hmmmmm."

Wow, that's bad. I used to, sorta be a deer hunter, myself. Embarassing. Did I really only shoot twice a year?

In all seriousness, when I first started going to Colorado, deer hunting, you were required to wear blaze orange at all times, even while hunting coyotes. I made a special trip into Game and Fish Headquarters , I think it was in Frutia just to ask for a clarification. And, I got it. No dice, regs say must wear blaze orange while hunting. Losers!

Good huntig. LB

Probably never changed it, huh?

The idiots have never figured out that hunter orange looks like rust to us color blind folks that make up 33% of the male population.

I've often thought of the "orange" thing being as much or more so an aid for the game wardens to help them find hunters in the field. Although I'm sure in some places where the big game hunters nearly out number the game, it's not a bad thing.
As far as the looting, desperate people do desperate things in desperate times.
