So..not trying to start anything like an East vs. West beef, just looking at it from the outide objectivley, but it seems like there are a ton of eastern callers out there nowdays promoting themselves and predator calling in general, and a lot of them have only been doing it for a couple seasons or so, yet they now have thier own guide operations, or promoting calls or doing siminars? I know they have tough calling out there, and it may make you a good caller quick, I dont know, but it just seems to be a phenomenon? Predator calling seems relatively new out there?

Demographically speaking, the majority of new growth in calling is in the midwest (OH) and east. The majority of western callers have been at it longer, are less dependant upon new gadgets and such because their methods are times tested and proven, and are thus less inclined to buy all the new DVD's and gear we see being marketed today. The western guys are also more entrenched in their calling and more resistant to a lot of the information newcomers to the game are selling. Therefore, if you're selling and you're looking for the one born every minute, I suppose your money is best spent back East

Tapping into a new resource and trying to get a piece of the action before it disappears. I could also see where coyote hunting might even be a bigger draw in the East due to the lack of other hunting opportunities for big animals other than WT deer.
What appears to be happening in the East with coyote hunting, looks a lot like what happened here with turkey hunting 20 years ago.
After a couple failed attempts, turkeys took hold and exploded in population. For the first few years most people didn't know how to hunt them. Pretty soon turkey seminars were being offered, outfitters sold turkey hunts, stores carried calls, loads and shotguns specifically for turkeys. It seemed every swingin' dick was going after turkeys. I knew people who hunted nothing else suddenly get bit by the turkey craze. Hell, a few people even got sprayed with shot trying the sneak in on other callers.

I'm not biting on this this hook because it isn't a law enforcement issue.
I will say there is some truth in what you guys are saying, as far as the industry target marketing the eastern callers.
I don't see much of a predator calling push in New Jersey though. Practically none at all actually.

At least down here in Florida, there has been a coyote migration into this area and consequently people are starting to take an interest in predator calling. Fox are protected in Florida, and bobcats have a season, so with the arrival of coyotes, folks are starting to take an interest. Also, the coyotes have been getting after the turkeys and such and that has also inspired some who are turkey hunters to have a vested interest in hunting coyotes.
Another issue is terrain and techniques. What works out West in the wide open may not work so well in the forested east, so there is both a need to adapt new strategies and techniques, as well as an audience to expound on the peculiarities of hunting in the east versus the west. A lot of the commercially made predator hunting DVD's don't address eastern issues.
Just my 2 cents.

I guess I'm selfish or old school or whatever you want to call it,but I adhere to the school of thought that if you want to have good success in your calling areas in the future, you keep your mouth shut and and keep your ideas(tricks) and areas to yourself.
I don't know if you've seen that comercial where the two professional tennis players are playing a match and all of a sudden everybody starts running out of the stands to try and hit the tennis ball.
Reminds me of the coyote calling industry today.Everybody trying to get a piece of the pie.Guys that have almost zero experience, making DVD's and touting there knowledge and making sure everybody knows that they've killed "A" coyote.lol FWIW

Yep, prolly more a factor of population statistics. Although the % of hunters here in the East may be smaller, the sheer population mass will offset that, therefore more potential customers to sell to.
My fascination with predator calling began on a spring turkey hunt with my uncle. While soft calling, I was literally almost run over by a charing coyote. He stoppped so close to me that leaf litter & dirt hit me in the face! Ever since that day, I've been thoroughly & completely hooked on getting to know the animal & learn the ropes of hunting them wehre I live...
Here in NY, there are guys who shoot coyotes, and then there are coyote HUNTERS. The latter are few & far between. Coyote shooters may get one from their deer stand during deer season, or take a road dog or whatever. Others watch a video, buy a PowerDogg @ Dick's & expect four coyotes to come running over the hill into the wide open every time they hit PLAY on the remote. Those guys ain't real serious about it, and usually wind up throwing in the towel...
Guys who are coyote HUNTERS, those who go out and target calling coyotes in earnest, are rare. Especially those who opt to do it in the daytime and are successful at it. At least to my limited knowledge, that is the case...

Have you been up in the hills, east of Atlanta toward the Utah border? Some sort of retreat, seminary? Might be good around there? Might not?
