Some friends and I went to WY, back in '85 or '86 and hunted antelope. We all tagged out, had a great time, and life was good. Can anyone tell me where we went, I can't remember? OK, Joking there, but I really can't remember the town. I believe it was NE part of the state.
Regardless, at that time we could buy, over the counter, non-resident tags, and we had to buy some stamp or such that cost about $5 back then.
Are there still parts of the state where you can buy over the counter tags or is everything a drawing there? Also we paid the rancher a trespass fee, it was $25 back then. He would probably charge more now.
I'm just looking for a place that my brother and I can go and legally shoot an antelope, and have some fun.
Any help will be appreciated.
BTW, it just amazed us how a couple of days before season we were scouting in shorts and light shirts, then opening day we got hit with a freaking blizzard. I thought Missouri weather was crazy.

Dan, there are plenty of areas with lots of tags, but limited access, and areas with harder to draw tags and good access to tons of public. Very few ranches still take hunters on a tresspass system, but I'm sure there are some. There are some great public land areas. I killed the largest antelope of my life last year on public ground. The catch is that it's a hard to draw area. Applications for non residents have to be in by March 15th and if I were looking for a place to go cheap, I would look at the big areas west of Casper, or over by Newcastle in the north east.

I've done a couple that were in the 80's. He must go, what, around 89-92ish? Maybe more. Nice goat.

Another for size reference! LOL! The bottom two circumferences were right at 8 inches. The steel tags that the game and fish uses for an interstate game tag wouldn't fit!

Thanks Cal,
That really is something. Amazing looking at the reference of the beer can and those bases.

From the looks of them, it appears the cores have been pulled, sheathes cleaned, sealed and reset in prep for the mount. What kind of pose did you choose?

The keen eye of a taxidermist, I don't know about any of that but I do agree with Dan about the contrast to the beer can and with Dave on "Holy Crap"!!

CDog, I've never had a pedestal mount done, but I am thinking about it with this one. I'm about out of wall space and since this one may set somewhere besides my house anyway I may try it. I have had one of the major sporting goods chains interested in buying or displaying it.

Pedestals can be very versatile in their placement, either by putting a shorter base under them for placement on a tabletop, end table, credenza, or wherever, or a floor base. Around here, a lot of guys who use the floor base will go with a hedge fence post with artificial soil at the base, some vegetation and a length of barbed wire wrapping up and behind. Many of the top vendors offer habitat options specific to each region of the country.
I've posted this guy before, but this is a picture of a member here's antelope from '08, front view and the back so the cut out and backing are visible.

Relatively simple job to mount one If you can keep from getting kicked! (Ta-da-, crash, couldn't resist.)

Agree with everyone else, the horns look bigger without those damn floppy ears in the way. The field picture showed he was a dandy, now he's even dandier.

Nice job, CDog, thats pretty much what I'm thinking. On a short pedestal. George, I don't have the measurers sheets right in front of me, but the cutters were 6 and some change, not quite 7. Total length was 16 1/2.
