We were all at the funeral home, yesterday. Making arrangements for our father. He lived in a local area very small town. A scumbag, came into his unlocked house[broad daylight]. He stole Dad's hunting rifle, & his handmade guitar. Broke into one of his sheds, as well.
If I would've caught him in the act, his mother would cry.

No kidding, it's true. My Dad never kept records. I went to the local pawn shop. Told the owner[Joe] to be on the look-out for these items. He's a good man. Gave him a pic of Dad playing his [guitar] for a reference.
Joe is Italian, no-nonsence guy[he packs a gun]. Told him, "if those items show up, call me first". He said, "He'll take care of it"
This county is saturated with Meth-addicts[National stats] & other forms of people.
Should've known some heathen, would read Dad's [obit] & swoop-in for an easy target. I've seen my share of these types & worse. He better not surface.

Put out a reward for the return of the gun, the guitar, and any of the perp's body parts . The claimant can decide which he wants to bring in. An arm. A leg. A little higher...
That's bullshit, 2dogs. But you know that dirtbags like that do just that kinda thing. What you need to do is get in touch with your local agency's drug enforcement guys, if you have any, and have them put a few feelers out to their confidential informants. Those dirtbags will turn a dime on anyone to keep their own asses out of jail for one more day. My brother founded and developed one of the bioggest DE units in the central part of the country. I learned a lot about how to get the skinny on trash by leaning on the right ppl.

I detest human predators. Those that prey on the weak & down trodden. I know, with GOD nothing go's unnoticed. But the human in me, wanted to be there at the time. That this trash made his mark.
Tomarrow, all siblings are going to be at the wake. I'm gonna be at Dad's. I feel like Sampson with an attitude over this.
My Dad worked hard his whole life[manual laborer]. Didn't have anything of any value, now this.
Dirtbag, shows up tomarrow, to make another hit. His mother will weep.

2dogs,I'm guessing,but i think the creep will unload your dads guitar and gun in another town or city,whichever is the closest..He won't take it far,that would cost him money...They look for the fast buck,the easiest way,without spending...Let the authorities know in the closest town,or city...Do like lance said...I hope you catch the creep,but don't get yourself in a mess...There not worth it.

What kind of rifle was it?
With any luck it's an oddball in which case local gun stores can be notified to take names off IDs of individuals buying that type of ammo.
If it's pawned it may not catch the guy, but it might be a way to get the gun back.

Well with further communications, today with my siblings[there's 9 of us]. I found out my oldest Bro[Dad's power of attorney].
Took [ALL] of Dad's firearms to his house for safe keeping. Until they can be devided amongst us [5]boys. He just didn't bother to pass this info along to us all:confused:.
Anyway, Dad's handmade guitar was taken by someone & one of his shed's broke into. We don't know what is missing from there.
One of my Bro's stayed with Dad's ailing wife. The other night. He confronted a dirty looking guy trying to get into Dad's truck, in the early am. He ran back inside to get a gun. They were all gone. The man left quickly. Smart move on his part.
Needless to say our emotions, are at peak level. I welcome relief. It will just take time.

Well, regardless of the mixup, I just want to say that the best investment any gun owner can make is to buy a decent safe. The biggest mistake is in not buying one big enough for your needs, down the road. It really is surprising what you can store in a safe and how many times you have to get into it. Make sure it's backed up to a solid wall, preferably in a corner, and bolted to the floor.

Good idea, Leonard.
None of us, has ever done that. Wife & I have a 10yr old, 100lb German Shephard. Once he's gone. I'll get one, if I can afford it. Money's always been a little tight.

I can understand how you must feel. I had a welding machine mounted on a trailer stolen a few weeks ago. I had fired a guy just the week before and strongly suspected him. I tried to let the law handle it but they have just drug their feet. I did all the investigating and would give them all kinds of leads but they just sat on their hands. I know with almost 100% certainty that this guy is the right one. I bump into him a couple of day ago in a local convenience store. He knew I had been hot on his tail through talking with friends of his. I was very polite, smilled and ask him to wait for me outside the store. I picked up a drink and met him outside where he was waiting nervously. I politely and calmly told him I was getting very close to 100% certaintly of finding out who stole my machine, and when I did he would surely pay. Of course he denied it. I called him a lying theif and a few other choice words (all this time with a smile on my face and in a low tone). Their were several people getting gas and what not and I couldn't get a rise at all from him (puss). As he left I told him I was getting very close and when I did, I would be seeing him again but doubted he would see me. When I got home the phone was ringing. It was the local police. He was up there turning me in for threatning him. I aked the officer if he was still standing there. He said yes, I said "tell him I said high and that I would be seeing him soon, he'll know what you mean". That trailer had almost 6 thousand dollors worth of tools, torches and other stuff on it as well. He probably sold it for nothing more than a quick fix. The drug problem in this country is out of hand and the very root of most crime commited. I can't understand why more effort and more strict penalties aren't implimented on the root of the problem.
I feel for you 2Dogs, and hope they can catch the people responsible. Glad to hear you found the rifle. Hang in there and keep your head up.

Your right about the safe. I, built a large safe for my home several years ago. I built it as large as I could and still get it in the house. I can now leave with the piece of mind that my guns will be there when I return. It is 6'6" tall 3' deep and 4' wide with a big shelf on the inside. Holds lots of other goodies like important documents camera gear as well as guns.

I wish you well on your recovery of your trailor & tools. Our Dad's [hand] custom made guitar will probably never be found. Brings the rage out for sure.
When I was young, I stole garden vegetables & apples from the neighbors. Didn't want to, but we had little food. I've paid my debt for that & other iniquities 10-fold since then.
We have one son, now 28yrs old. He got hooked on Meth 8yrs ago. He's doing just fine now[got treatment]. It was devastating to him & us, as well. I wanted to know the name of his [pusher]. He wouldn't say...My intent, was to take him out, for good. That scum-bag, doesn't know how lucky he was. Our son, knew what I would do. I love my boy, more than life itself.
Even though our son took drugs on his own[ no-one pointed a gun at him]. I was willing to martyr myself, to save other folk's children. I hate drug dealers. Enough rant.

Byron, there is a good chance that your auto insurance or homeowners insurance would cover your loss. I hate to put in a claim against either one of them because they always punish you, but $8,000 is a little hard to take.

edit: another thing, they aren't cheap, but a Viper or Python alarm system on your truck and trailer would have kept your stuff safe. I have a microwave detector installed on the tailgate, and it goes off before anyone touches my truck, just walks up behind it.

Sorry to hear this 2dogs, glad it wasn't worse.
My uncle lost all of his guns on Christmas Eve a few years ago. I know an old man that lost several of his belongings when his elderly wife died. They read the obituary and broke into the house... not knowing he still lived there... but he was in no condition to fight for his property so he layed in bed as they ripped him off.

My homeowners insurance covered it but not all of it. They stole it when they knew I was out of tow (my mistake). I live out in the country and have very good neighbers. We watch each other places and livestock when were gone. We have never had any theft problems in the past and have very little traffic on the road I live on. When I'm out of town my wife and kids are normally here and my wife is very proficient with a pistol so I don't worry to much. The trailer was not in a very easy place to get to and they knew exactly what they were doing. This cut the possible suspects down to one person. He will slip up and it will come back to the point he will regret his decision to mess with this country boy. I used to have a built in alarm system in my dog, but she got old and passed away last Febuary. Have another in training though.
2Dogs,
I hope you will be able to retreive the guitar. No amount of insurance will replace something like that. I would't be surprised if something that unique doesn't show up and will be recovered. We can alway's hope.
