Danny, I didn't have a camera along. But there were critters everwhere. Sat and watched a nice fat bobcat for almost 15 minutes before he spooked. Found an active golden eagle nest. Got in to about 100 yds without scaring them off the nest. Watched a pair of hyper ferrets running all over a little PD colony. Spotted a prairie falcon and followed it to the cliffs. After about a half hour of searching I finally located the nest site.

Spotted a coyote and got within about 50 yds of it. It was a wet bitch and the guy I was hunting with that day was freakin' out. "Stop, stop, stop! I wanna' shoot it!" I told him, "No you don't. What you really want to do is come back here in 3 months and shoot those 6 pups she's feeding right now". He was bummed. Anyone who gets that excited over a coyote doesn't get out of the house enough.

Saw 2 badgers along one stretch of 2-track. Actually 3. The 3rd one I saw too late. He ran out of the brush as I was going by and the right rear tire caught him.

I also saw my first prairie chickens. About a half dozen families of them. Baby chicks all over the place. It was cool to watch them try to imitate Mamma and flatten out in the grass.

Saw 2 single red fox, some world-class jack rabbits that were 12 lbs if they were an ounce. And I found a brush bunny, aka pigmy rabbit. They only weigh about 3/4 of a lb when full grown. Kinda rare. This is only about the 5th one I've ever seen. Got up close to a buck speedgoat that was sporting prongs that were at least 14" and probably went 16" or more.

Also came across a couple of bull snakes and 3 prairie rattlers.

Not to mention about a brazillion PD's, as well. It was a good trip for critter watching.

Sounds like a good tour.

I went whitewter rafting on the Colorado River Thursday near Kremmling, CO and between the place we all met and where we put in, we road this old school bus without about fifty other folks. Not many country folks or hunters amongst them, so far as I could see. The couple in front of me were looking for wildlife but failed to notice the five elk and one muley doe off the starboard side of the bus. Granted, they were well past 500 yards, but I guess it take a hunter's eye to see some of that stuff.

Made our way down a couple grades that had your buttcheeks grabbing vinyl. Turned to my son and asked him how far he thought this bus would go with no brakes. His reply:

"All the way to the scene of the crash, dad. Probably still beat the Paramedics by at least an hour." Smart kid. Gonna start calling him "Tater salad". [Smile]

Actually, Danny, Lotsa hemp-wearin', tree huggin', dredlocks sportin', hippie type greenies everywhere around. I don't care if I ever see another organic anything the rest of my life. Between sulphur spring spas and massage therapists places, overpriced everything and floatin' my way to the banana bar to keep from getting altitude sick, I was satarting to feel like Larry the Cable guy on a bender. When we went rafting, I wore my T-shirt from St. Francies that had coyote tracks going up it to this big "blood splatter" and the phrase, "Take no enemies". My son looked at it and asks me, "Are you really gonna wear that?" Hell yeah. I dare somebody to try and corner me on it. Nobody did. [Frown]
