After several months of regular blood tests to monitor my low blood count situation, I underwent a bone marrow biopsy and aspiration the day before yesterday. They did this in the doctor's office while I layed there on my fat belly. The spot where they went in with the needles, they call the pelvic bone, but it to me it is my hip bone. They used novacaine to numb the muscle and bone, but the marrow is immune to novacain I guess. They went in with a small diameter needle, and removed some marrow for testing. Then they went back in through the same hole with a larger diameter needle, and removed some bone for testing. Although the process was not fun, I did not experience the extreme pain that others have told me about. I would imagine that the doctor performing the procedure has a lot to do with that. Everyone has a different level of pain threshhold also. They will call me in about one week to inform me of the results.

Rich, I did not know about your problem. I hope things work out for you. When you get older, things start going to hell in a hurry. I'm starting to feel the ole joint pain myself. I just load up on Aleve and keep going. I sure don't have the get up and go like when I was younger. I wish you the best my man.

Good luck, Rich. As soon as you said b/m aspiration, my first thought was the pain involved in that procedure. Glad it went well for you.

Good luck old man.
But have you ever noticed? Those of us who hunt with a 17, never seem to have these problems.....
Maybe it's time for you to step up to a real coyote rifle !!!

J_hun, My knees are doing pretty good now actually. A cortisone shot made a lot of difference, at least so far. The Hemotologist that I saw the other day seems fairly sure that I don't have leukemia, but the bone marrow tests are the only way to learn what is going on in there for sure. I do have Low blood platelettes for sure, and white count was down for awhile there also. I will know something more in a few days.

Jerry, Things certainly should turn around for me soon. I need to get out and kill a coyote or three.

Rich; Be somewhat cautious with Cortizone. The stuff WILL stop pain. It WILL NOT repair damage. To often people will get Cortizone and continue the activities that contributed to the injury in the first place, pain free, not realizing that they are still damaging the joint. Just something to think about.

The doc called me tonite and told me that my bone marrow is functioning normally. The low blood platelets are likely due to my enlarged spleen. Platelets not low enough to warrant removal of my spleen. Hell I'm gonna go coyote calling tomorrow.

Rich,
Sorry, I just read this... I just got back from Tex ass. I will still send prayers and good thoughts that your blood count comes back to normal and that you go out there and knock down a mess of coyotes!

Thank you Crow Woman. The only way to get my platelets up to normal, they would need to remove my spleen. The low blood platelets mostly just make my blood thinner than it should be. I bleed pretty easy, but they tell me that it is nothing to worry about at this time. Just border line low is all.

Good to hear, Rich. Despite some continuing problems, it's good to know that there's nothing that's gonna take you out in the short term. Hang tough.
