The campout was last weekend. We have been had. From the satellite photos Tom was able to get there was one truck with California license plates, Two with Arizona plates. Also five Chinese girls and twelve sheep. The photos were hard to make out because all of the dust being kicked up by the sheep.

You Texans need better glasses. Those weren't sheep, just typical 75 pound coyotes from SE Arizona.

The Professor called them in and Leonard confused them with his magic mist. They were so entranced with the sounds, smells and sight for those girls dancing on the big pole, they never noticed the rifle fire as Vic picked them off, one at a time with his trusty 17 Remington!

Anytime those three Masters join together, the coyotes don't stand a chance!

Be assured, what happens at the Campout, stays at the Campout. Except for video, word of mouth, and digital images, etc.

The date will be October 20-22, and it is an open invitation. Make your intentions known asap, and we will provide directions.

However, be advised, this is dry camping, everybody should bring sleeping bags and a tent or make arrangements with a buddy to share expenses and accommodations.

No port-a-pottys, no Master of Ceremonies, no awards, no door prizes. In other words, it's more like a deer camp.

Location will be between Phoenix and Tucson, either airport is convienent.

Hope to see a lot of you Pampass know-it-alls at our little ronde.

Good hunting. LB

I'll Be there!! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

And I'm planning on bringing Carne Asada, fresh Homemade tortillias and Salsa, A few dozen Atomic Buffalo turds and a bottle of tequela and a big stack of Dixie cups. ( Should we build a fence to keep Locohead out of the fire? )

For breakfast, I'll make up some more Chorizo con huevos burritos, with fresh ranch raised eggs. ( I've got to do something with all of these durn chickens)

This campout is by far my favorite event of the year! Anyone who misses it, misses out in a huge way! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

This is my favorite event also. This is a good area, coyotes everywhere, good cat area, good quail area. Stores and gas within 10 minutes or so, yet as remote as we want it.

Okay, for now, we will just say that the location is about half way between Phoenix and Tucson and not more than ten miles from Interstate 10. We do not want somebody to be able to tie up our spot so everybody that tells me they will be coming will get an email in plenty of time to find the spot, even if you are driving.

So, I think I will set up a forum for registration? In that special permission forum, your true email address will be needed, and protected. That way, I will have a database to provide attendees with precise directions, including GPS coordinates, and any other details, as they pop up. This notification will happen at least ten days prior to the event; plenty of time.

Good hunting. LB

I will try to generate a short list of nearby motels and post it in the Campout forum in plenty of time to book a room for those not able to bunk with a local....although, in the past there have been extra wall tents, set up and provided by Tim and Norm.

Weather, we can't say? Might be a little chilly and it could be hot and it might rain?

Good hunting. LB

Walmart has two man tents for $30. Stuff it in a bag with a sleeping bag and ground pad and check it through baggage. There is a KOA about 5 miles down the road that would let you shower for a couple of bucks. They have ice and beer. [Smile]

I also have a couple of "Two man" tents that hold one guy and his gear comfortably.

I need to check, but I think I may have a couple of spare sleeping bags for those who need one.

Well, all I can say is: Only in Indiana! Right next to the Indianapolis airport, they had a big car show for 1962 Ford Falcons. Must have been hundreds, somehow escaped the wrecking ball, flee to Indiana where they seem to appreciate things like that? Twilight Zone, for sure.

White Castle, I don't know? My taste has "matured" but I did like that triple steak burger/w cheese. LB

Tim,
Seems most everyone in the state knows about the Beef House.
Heck one restaruant owner out here asked me to set him up with a meeting with Bob Wright (the owner) so he could start the same kind of Beef House out here.
I did and he did and then he sold it and they turned it into a darned Italian cafe!
I still hunt and trap on Bob Wright's farms as well as all the Wright land from Covington to Kentland.

Nothing personal. I just like the idea of someone else buying my plane ticket to Australia and getting to hang out there a bit much better than hanging out in the Az. desert. I've been there a few times.

Realistically, I'll probably never get another chance like this, and this deal may not go through , either.

Unfortunately I missed last year's campout but I'm hoping to make one eventually -- possibly this year's. I'm waiting to hear on a buddy getting UT-Nebraska football tickets for us that same weekend in Lincoln. I'd say I'm 50/50 at this point.

The Phoenix/Tucson area is great. Used to do a little visiting and shooting in the area a few years back. I'm sure anyone who goes is going to have a great time, just pack some bug spray in case you repeatedly bump into sheep.

Leonard; I won't be comeing to the camp-out, sounds like you are going to have a pretty big crowd and i'm not much for crowds. Plus i have the NAPA invatational pheasant hunt comeing up and the I.P.C hunt, and a coyote calling contest in S.D. and a few coyote hunting trips. Besides someone has to stay home and watch the sheep, right Tim B.

Posted by Tim Behle (Member # 209) on August 19, 2006, 10:24 AM:

Tim,

I pretty much despise crowds myself. I turned down FREE Diamondback tickets AGAIN yesterday, simply because the games are held in Phoenix.

This hunt is my one yearly exception to crowds, and I can't say that I could ever think of this bunch of guys as being a crowd. Everybody splits off and goes hunting from sunrise to sunset, and you end up with only two nights of some of the most entertaining campfire conversations ever to be found.

That's why I try to discourage guys who want to come and stay in a motel. The Huntmasters campout is different from any other contest or board hunt that you will ever find. Guys who are absent from Supper to bedtime, miss the very essence of these gatherings. It isn't about the coyotes, it's about the coyote hunters, and everyone goes home with the same great door prize: Friendship.

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on August 19, 2006, 10:44 AM:

Shari, I wasn't talking about you! I know you can shoot. That was just a wild accusation that was flung around in the past, (about eastern hunters, in general) and we had a little fun with it. Like "PAMPASS KNOW-IT-ALLS"

You know, I saw a pair of pink camo pants a week ago, or so and thought of you. And, it wasn't in a sporting goods store; just a regular department store.

Good hunting. LB

edit: Ronnie, Trip and TA. all you guys, hope your plans work out in our favor.

edit: yeah, Tim's right. You don't get a sense of "crowds", but the campfire discusion is worth the price of admission.

TA, I'll pencil you in....and you can camp on the fringes. (less crowded, right)

If I were to guess, the best price would be Phoenix, but it's not always logical? I once flew to Tucson by way of Phoenix and it was cheaper than just flying to Phoenix? Doesn't make sense? But, the answer is....whatever is cheaper!

Don't worry about that, TA. Everybody that needs assistance will get it. The local expert is Higgins, actually. I don't think Tim is very familiar with this area? Anyway, it's hard to go too far wrong.

Good hunting. LB

I have eaten a gulf shrimp meal prepared by Randy. I have also eaten alligator tail. In my opinion and in my area, Randy's gulf shrimp is the winner hands down.

For those interested in flying, Southwest Airlines offers some good specials.

For instance, You can fly from Salt Lake City to Tucson for only $129 They have at least three flights a day, seven days a week.

How could anyone pass up the chance to see good friends, with such a great deal like that? [Big Grin]

Edit: Unless you are from Kansas and just want to stay home with the sheep.

FYI - I got a nonstop, roundtrip ticket from Indianapolis to Phoenix for $244. Travelocity and Expedia are good (IMO) - I've been told Orbitz is not to be trusted.
