As overwhelmingly hectic as this summer has been, I've still been burdened by the taxidermy work that needs to be done and (Yahoo) I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. (Praying it isn't a train.)
I finished four more mounts tonight and thought I'd take a moment to show you those four, of which two are very nice, as well as the biggest trophy buck I took in this year.
This first mount is a smallish WT buck that is a guy's first buck. His cape spoiled, so I offered to do his mount with a "shop cape" from my freezer. Little did I know that it was perfect with no bites or scars to speak of and a brilliant double throat patch.
The next is another smaller buck for a guy that has several of my mounts on his Man Room wall.
This buck had a relatively stubby nose compared to most which made him kind of unusual.
This next deer is a really nice buck from a guy that I did an almost identical deer for last season. (Most all of my business is either repeat or referrals.) This one is looking the opposite direction as the other and both are on the same form. He lives in Springfield, MO.
Number four is a really nice eight point - you won't see many eights this big. Surprisingly, this one is the smallest of three that I've done for this local customer. Upon delivery, I believe this one is slated for the Kansas City Cabelas store. Note: This customer has brought me three trophy class deer. Each and every one has had one ear severely torn or split requiring a specially constructed ear form to mount. Also, this deer had lost both G-2 and G-3 on the left antler which I had to reconstruct for him.
And finally, this last deer is a rack that came to me on opening weekend. I caped it and returned it immediately to the customer so it could be held safely in a safe until I was ready for it. I don't know how many points it had (maybe about 17 or 19, NT).
In any event, I'm done with deer (had another dozen just like these) and am part way thru rugshell mounts, then I have an elk to do and a lifesize coyote. Once they're done, it's hunting time. I will be soooooo happy to see the last one done.

Thanks, guys. And on the cheating ?, no. He has no plans to have it scored. Doesn't really care about the numbers. Like I said, this is the smallest one of the last three he's taken.
I've laughingly accused him of going out before each of the last three seasons, wranglin' a buck to the ground, slicing its ear, then seeing if he can get it again come fall. We have no fenced in hunting here, unless you find one dumb enough that it won't jump a 5-strand barbed wire fence. I really don't know how much longer I'll be doing taxidermy. Except for close friends. Just not much money in it for the amount of time one spends in the shop. I'd rather spend that time hunting or writing.

Damn Lance, thats good!! I have never mounted a deer. Got a few that would have been nice and cut horns off and hung em in my "room". Got some hides tanned on the wall. Only mount I got is a pheasant. Caught several bass over 8lb and two over 9lb, no mounts.
Now I know where to take my buck, should I ever decide to do it. ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

Lance, I sure am glad you posted your crackerjack resume on the other thread. These pics really underscore your simple taxidermy line over there.

Could it be that the second deer in your photos is a mulie-whitetail cross? Probably not 50/50 but maybe 1/4 or 1/8. Sure looks like it to me.
In near-west Texas and in the Panhandle we see these crosses a lot. Yours shows that typical shorter nose, and the right beam looks to show some mulie genetics.
What do you think?

A definite poosibility, Tripp. We have both thru this area and crossbreeding isn't unheard of.
