Worth the money? I am looking into getting one just for giggles but they carry quite a tag on them. I have quite a few other howlers and really don't have a pressing need for another but wanted some feedback from those that may have one. Thanks, ChrisDUDU

Scruffy, my fellow BAKPAKMAN. It was in fact the one on E-Bay that piqued my interest. I saw the one there and knew they could run much higher than that so why not grab one for $45 bucks less? I wanted to know if it was worth the price of admission, ya know. Another E.L.K. Deluxe Cow Talk will run me $16 and may sound better for howling. Who knows? Geeze, a howler seems like just a howler, unless it involves some special craftmanship, like a Higgins Howler?
Good hunting. LB

Leonard, Higgins howlers are a myth. They don't really exist. The grandmastertoothpakman hinted that I may get one someday, but it never shows. I keep checking the mailbox every day.
BTW lately I have been the aerialpakman. [ July 13, 2007, 02:17 PM: Message edited by: 3 Toes ]

3 Toes,
I had to pester Higgins for 5 years or more to get my howler.
Then when I finally did get one, my wife told me that it was too beautiful to hunt with and took it away.

I rarely ever comment on another call makers calls, unless I have personally seen and test driven one.
I have never seen one of his howlers in person, and admittedly can't use a howler worth spit.
But, I have seen one (or two) of his predator calls. They are nicely made, he turns the bodies very thin, giving them excellent tonal quality. His craftsmanship is on par with the best.
The one I remember test driving had a voice and a sound quality not unlike my higher pitched Rhino (cottontail?).
I have no grasp of price and value, at least not so enough that I am willing to share my opinion on price. But I will say, most of his calls are made from expensive exotic woods, and burls, so the base cost is going to be more than your average call.

I have and yous Rare earth calls. I DO NOT own a R E Howler I do like the calls and cary them often.
Now the Higgy Howler I have been packing around for over 5 years It is not as pritty as it once was but still works very well. THAY ARE BUTIFULL HOWLERS! When NEW and unused

Sometimes a howler is just a howler, unless you raise it from a pup and it comes with a bright green leash. The consensus seems to be...... Get one from TRnCO!

Well if we're just throwing out names now...
A Cronk, and a Brad H, top my list.
I test drove a buffalo Cronk with the black delrin mouthiece, and it was the only one I ever thought I could make a decent sound with.
Flat out though, a flame howler from Brad would have to be the coolest thing ever. Being a child of the muscle car era, I just love a good flame job.

Child? Maybe diapers? One of the things I regret most, was selling my Dodge Charger. It was a '71, not the fastest, but I still get a thrill every time I see one, which is very infrequently. Second place was my '65 Chevelle Malibu. That was a pretty car, just a 283, but it was a hardtop, white with red interior. Wish I had both of them.
Good hunting. LB
PS never saw or heard of rare earth calls. But, I have a Brad H call and I like it a lot.
