...invented the internet.

Amazing

Now every scrawny assed coyote weighs no less than 30 pounds and a 28 pound or so coyote now weighs 40 pounds.

I especially love the part where guys who probably couldn't lift shit are holding it shoulder high.

And I'm not talking about claims from guys out east. These are western coyotes.

And these same folks claim it was weighed on a digital scale. Fine...lets see a ******* pic of the same dog on a scale.

Yes some coyote go 40 pounds of better out west. Some go 30 or better. But when I see a coyote that I'll bet don't go 25 pounds held up shoulder high by some pussy who claims its 40 pounds and probably couldn't military press 40 pounds with one hand then I call bullshit.

Rant done

.....and a fine rant it was!!!

Add to list;

Shooting a coyote, laughing like Renfield & announcing "Yeah BaBY!!!" instead of waiting to see if a second coyote comes in.

Dragging a coyote by the hind leg against the fur while telling me what a fine pelt it will make.

And last but not least, the increasing number of videos that are an endless series of hero scenes and seem to have a negative instructional value.

(Mongolia??)

"And last but not least, the increasing number of videos that are an endless series of hero scenes and seem to have a negative instructional value."

That phenomenon can be traced back to the cheap video cameras available today. Everyone has one, and is doing a carbon copy, of the videos they've seen.

Good point Dan; It's just hard to find one that isn't the same ole same ole. In the last few years,I can only really think of one that jumped out at me,and that was one put out by Mark Zepp and Eddie Hawkins. It Made me take notice primarily becasue of the production value, which was stunning. Great camera work, clarity of resolution, scenery, for lack of a better word, just a pretty video to watch.
If you think about it, what the hell can you do to make a different calling video? Kind of like porno, same cast of "stars" you've come to know and love, same yacking about calls, gear and gun, the the same "boom chicka wow wow" and it's over:)

I remember what the professor told me once. We were discussing the relative merits of the "first" Coyote Gods video, and he said that the shorter fella went a bit overboard in admiring his coyotes, and half expected him to flop down and roll on it. Sure, we can laugh about it now, but was that a catty remark!

Back to heavy coyotes. I have never seen a true 40 pound coyote, on the ground, anywhere. Occasionally, one comes close, real close; but I don't recall seeing a 40, in the flesh, not looking at somebody's pictures?

Good hunting. LB

I haven't seen the one by Mark Zepp and Eddie Hawkins. If you have it feel free to send it up this way and I'll review it and return it.

As to the weight of coyotes, I don't weigh them, skin them, nor do I eat them. So, I don't have a clue, I'll just take your word for it that they all weigh 40+ pounds.

Dan, I hope that wasn't directed at me because that is exactly the opposite of what I was trying to convey.

Are there 40+ pound coyotes out west? Sure. I even killed one once. 30+ punders. Not uncommon.

But some people habitually add 10 pounds to every coyote they kill without any basis in fact.

That was my point.

I either attend or compete in most of the local calling contests, biggest I have seen are 38# , that I can remember!!! Most fit into the 25#-30# range.

Along the same lines it takes a hell of a tom bobcat to weigh 30lbs, but yet they kill them non stop on the internet. I have trapped bobcats in the hundreds and can only think of a handful that weighed 30 plus. And yes, I do have a digital fish scale. Coyotes, the same. Takes a big s.o.b. to hit the 30 mark. But I have seen a handful.

Notice two regulars, and an extra jumbo!

Tyler's first bobcat weighed 32 pounds on a KOA scale.
He's taken quite a few since, none near that mark.

We have weighed so many coyotes turned into various contest over the past several years here in NM.
The bigger ones usally are about 36-38 pounds. I cannot remember a 40 pounder. Most are under 30 pounds.

nice cats!

30 lb+ dogs are not uncommon here on the east coast, but lot of hunters do think they are bigger then they are, I even get surprised every now and then when they are lighter then they look, big winter coats can be deceiving ,, I don't think I ever scaled a cat, we just take a nose to tail measurement 26'' to 34'' is average on a tom's I have taken a couple over 36''in south Texas,I cant get a tag here at home but we don't see the nice spots often here in PA on are cats, we get the dark orangey brown cats, not much on markings ether..

It takes a lot of coyote to hit 40 pounds, and it's obvious when you heft and see one compared to a "normal" 20-25 pound coyote, see........

No, but I did stroke it lovingly after I shot it stone dead with one little 27 grain bullet from my .19 Calhoon at about an honest 100 yards.

Good seeing you, Eddie. Glad you will be able to make some of the campout. Hey, I wondered why you had your camcorder trained on the judges table, rather than on the contestants? What's up with that?

Good hunting. LB
