What is it with today? I had to delete approximately 100 spams from my account this morning! Normally, (oh) it's 10, maybe 25 at the most?

Am I more important or not, I don't know? What has the average HM member been getting on a daily basis?

Good hunting. LB

Probably 20-30 per day on two different email accounts. Of course I have spam filters turned on so I really don't know how many if I didn't have that feature turned on.

I don't have a clue as to how these blood suckers find my Cox E mail. Lately I have been getting Spam from companies that I don't even know, and I have never gone to their site. I report most of them to my E mail carrier but doesn't stop the spammer's.

Only thing I can figure about the spam increase is it's too hot to go calling. Just a guess.

I gotta be honest, Jay. I forward to you everything I get about Viagra, porn, cruises and vinyl windows. No need to thank me!

Good hunting. LB

My email account got infected somehow and everybody I had ever sent an email to started getting emails from me with a buncha spam attatched. Those low life's will do anything to push that crap. I had people returning e-mails to me telling me to stop emailing them and also had a few other things to say. I had to delete the whole dang account to make it stop.

Dave,
I had the exact same experience on my AOL account, and it was a real bitch to fix. I leave AOL mail alone now, and the wife uses it for her womanly "deal" fishing. I have honestly done my best to educate her, but no luck with that. Now I run three separate programs twice a day just to keep all of the Malware and crap cleaned out of this computer.

Fellows, I made a post about this once before. You need to abandon Google and switch to Ixquick for your search engine. Google shares your info with everybody which causes a lot of spam. Ixquick does not gather your info or share it.

And Leonard.... You have no idea how much I appreciate you fessing up. NOW I have the proof I've been wanting to convince my wife that all the porn wasn't my doing. You're a great man Leonard B.

edit to add. I had been blaming her about the viagra spam.

You are welcome, Jay!

By the way. This is no shit. I (not long ago) got a Canadian Viagra and Cialis Pharmacy spam from one of my dearest friends, Rich Higgins! He may be unaware? May God strike me dead; it's the truth!

Good hunting. LB

I don't understand how it all works. Must have something to do with where you go on the net. My wife gets tons and complains about 20 or 30 a day. I actually get very little.

Cal, where you go on the net does have a lot to do with it, especially if you fill out one of those "Free" participation offers. Having good spam filters on your email help a lot too. I like Yahoo's spam filters as you train them over time. I avail myself of the option where I see what is in the spam folder to make sure it is working correctly. If you take a look at Ixquick for your search engine, you'll see that they don't collect your information to share with others. On top of that, it is as good or better than Google as for proficiency.

I deleted another 35 spams last night, but only had about 15 this morning. It actually is a chore to delete them.

Good hunting. LB

Cal, let me see if I can help....I'll fill out a form for a free trip and use your name.

I had Rich C. edit some sounds for me sometime ago and we exchanged E-mails as well. Ended up getting 30 some spams a day since then..
I also exchanged E-mails with Rich H. and also got 30 some spams which were identical to the ones I got from Rich C...
Both must be related to each other or spend there free time in some of the same places.. [Big Grin]

I hope that those didn't happen recently. If they are still coming, I will fix it. I presume it was from my AOL address?

Not sure where they came from Rich, just know I've been getting them since us exchangeing e-mails.. No big deal as the comp. picks them up and puts them in the trash...

That was a long time ago Tim. If you get any E mail from me, just let me know. I believe the problem you are thinking about was fixed a year or so ago. It is a virus of sorts, and only way to fix it is to delete everyone from your address book and change your password to the E mail account.

Yeah, and I heard that big horn has a virus, too.

Fellows, if you are serious about doing anything you can to deter hackers and other spam distributors, never forward an email or "Reply to all" on incoming email. On forwarded emails, send it to yourself, with "BCC" copies to all your other friends. Each one will get the email with no mention of the other email addresses you are communicating with. The hackers just literally delight in hacking an email that has a bunch of names and email addresses on it.

You guys haven't learned yet to have a "dumpster" email? Make a Yahoo or other account that you use to "sign" up for stuff and a personal account with all your personal contacts and such. Simple, effective, logical. Plus starting with a fresh account let's you see who sells your email addy.

I use AOL. I get very few but i dont sign up for a lot. When I do get them I dont just delete them. Move them to the spam folder and you no longer get them from those people etc. I go a week or so sometimes without any.
